If you can watch it from the beginning, i'd recommend that but whatever season you can find is an okay place to start. Also, not historical but if you want silly plot and gorgeous clothes, Emerald City is wild! 😄

Call the Midwife is my go-to for cozy costume drama. Costumes are cute but not as fancy as Gilded Age I guess

I found a playthrough of Boku no natsuyasumi on YouTube by accident years back and wanting to play the series was what made me go back to learning Japanese. Natsu-mon was pretty fun too!
