If you want to use political charged imagery for your vtuber return stream announcement sure, go ahead. However leave the tragedy of what happened to the Humboldt Broncos out of your goddamn stream trailer.

As someone who played at the same level as a lot of those Broncos players, who's been on those long bus rides to tournies and away games, using their deaths in what seems to be a politically charged manner is very gross.

I can't believe it has to be said but please vtubers do not for the love of god use images of tragedies along side political imagery and a song about "Christ our saviour, fighting evils of satan" in your return to stream video.

It's actually gross.

Also don't expect YouTube to stop with it's AI anytime soon. Their CEO's been obsessed with AI for a few years now and is likely behind the big push towards it's implementation. He was also a big NFT guy too. So..... yeah I don't have high hopes.

That and site moderation as a whole is very much taking a backseat. Not that it was ever any good before, but nowadays it's hardly making any good decisions to make up for the bad. Channels getting terminated, while violators remain who allow YouTube to profit.

But also Youtube's currently in what feels to be a trend chasing era, much like the rest of the major American tech industry. It's seemingly who can race to find a practical use for AI (to cut costs) while pissing off users the least, or avoiding the least amount of bad headlines.

So if you're YouTube why invest possibly millions into revamping YouTube livestreaming if you can't be certain if the revenue will be there? If anything, you can just wait till either Twitch or Kick figures out a way to do it, then you can copy that and boom you can take over then.

Why doesn't YouTube do it? Probably because there isn't a guaranteed way of making profit with an online livestreaming business. It's an insanely expensive venture to even pursue and revenue can be inconsistent. It's why Microsoft pulled out when they did with Mixer, the money just wasn't there.

Like legit YouTube has everything they'd arguably need and can do whatever they need to do in order to match or surpass Twitch's offerings.

They have Google's server support (Twitch shockingly doesn't from Amazon), the foundation and brand recognition.

I love how youtube could absolutely hold a monopoly on not just the video sharing but also the livestreaming space online whenever they wanted to.

Only they keep getting in their own way because some profit is not enough profit.

I would assume she's defensive about it because it's warhammer related, and she seems to be a long time fan. Maybe she feels it's attacking her nostalgia or connection with the game but yeah, this is def weird new behaviour from Zen.

I could totally see her doing it on impulse, like if you spoke to her about how often fascism is depicted in media or in fashion as a whole as something "cool" maybe she wouldn't have reacted instantly towards progressive ideas.

The moment Zen started ranting about wokeness it instantly made me pause because of all the routes to take in responding to it, they instead chose to target progressive ideas as the cause.

People should be allowed to ask questions and have conversations about these types of topics, the mentality of "we need to change" in response is extremely unproductive and anti-intellectual.

Although I will say it is interesting to see the permission structure at play, with how eager folks are to jump on the defense to protect the larger creator and completely invalidate any type of conversation to be had. None of that is productive if you're screaming about how perfect zen is 😭

Bro honestly both sides of this Zen debate have folks that're crazy. Absolutely there is a discussion to be had about fascism in fashion, but also there's folks who jump the gun to assume the worst, and defenders who get overly emotional it makes em look silly and a childish.
