The students claiming uni Covid compensation 'for the principle' Dozens of universities have received legal letters over what students say they missed out on during Covid.

Yet again we in Higher Ed get everything bad from being private institutions, and everything bad from being seen as part of the public sector. We can be sued and sued again for actions which we didn't cause, which hit *us*. And yet ppl think we are backed by govt. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Doggies are great 😊 but I do still really value your insights on UK universities-they’re much needed when so many seem

Europe’s fragmented rearmament undermines its own security | Euractiv Europe risks falling into a dangerous rhetoric-reality gap; it cannot claim unity while pursuing contradictory national policies

"Instead of acting united, EU countries are racing to produce new weaponry on their own terms. The result is a divided military landscape that creates neither credible deterrence nor strategic coherence."

The ‘Antifa Scare’ Goes on Trial in North Texas As nine of the "Prairieland 19" face their days in court, the broader constitutional rights of left-wing activists may hang in the balance.

Our top story: Protesting, wearing black clothing, owning zines, guns, or first aid kits. Using the encrypted messaging app Signal. The federal government is using all these activities to build a so-called "antifa" conspiracy case.

Universities face:
*Teachers pension scheme cost increases
*National Insurance rises
*International student levy
*Soaring library costs
*Brutally high energy charges
*Potential 'free speech' fines

There's nowhere to turn really.

I can’t begin to express my sadness at Pete’s passing…he taught me Soviet foreign policy 1990-91 and then supervised my PhD 95-99. He was a monumental figure in the field, but always so self-deprecating, warm, and also very very funny ….one of a kind 😔

This is part of a bigger story that hasn't had much coverage about the FCDO being cut to ribbons.

Development funding has been slashed but foreign office staff are also being reduced by 20-30%.

So much mainstream reporting on Epstein focused on whether individuals have been "accused of wrongdoing" and very little on why all these celebs and politicians didn't have a problem hanging out with a known sexual abuser of children.

Commentary: The option being talked about — whispered, actually — is the nuclear option.

It is worth recalling that the position of U.K. Ambassador to the US was not vacant at the time the Prime Minister chose to appoint Peter Mandelson to the role. A highly competent and respected woman was replaced.

Glen has nailed what is happening to UK universities (again). All the grand strategists pontificating about the UK's future in a post-rules based international order need to realise that one of the critical sectors they tout as "world leading" is on the verge of collapse.

I just finished a three-year term as an editor at an international relations journal. I began at the start of the LLM era but ended right in the middle of it. Our volume of submissions tripled and our desk reject rate rose to 75%. I have some thoughts.
