My brotherโ€™s long-dormant band Poblano is back and it brings me an immense amount of joy, because they are the fucking greatest.

Hereโ€™s my favorite video of my favorite Florida band.

Missouri's involvement in Trump immigration purge totals 15 National Guard soldiers

JEFFERSON CITY โ€” Republican Gov. Mike Kehoeโ€™s announcement committing Missouri National Guard members to help support President Donald Trumpโ€™s immigration crackdown has resulted in just 15 troops taking part.

And, because of the federal government shutdown that kicked off Wednesday, those soldiers will not be getting paychecks until the government reopens.

Two days after Kehoe announced Missouri soldiers would assist with administrative, clerical and logistical duties at Immigration and Customs Enforcement processing facilities within the state, a guard spokesperson provided the first details of how the in-state deployment is working.

In response to a Post-Dispatch inquiry, an emailed response from the Missouri Guardโ€™s Public Affairs Office stated, โ€œA total of 15 Missouri National Guard service members are providing support.โ€

Two Hundred Thousand Dollars by Camp Trash
The new Camp Trash album, Two Hundred Thousand Dollars, is a loosely connected collection of stories that follow hapless con men, gamblers, low level mobsters, and cult members who dream of something bigger and come up with foolproof plots to get there, but find the journey to be more complicated than they imagined. Each of their stories revolves around $200,000: getting $200,000, losing $200,000, owing $200,000 to some very important people with some very powerful friends. When they say your life flashes before your eyes, they mean your past. What really happens is you see your future: stretched out, solid, and strung up like a banner in front of you. And in that slowed down moment, you can see what comes next; you can see all the way to the end, all the way to the bottom. These songs take place in that moment.
These characters, however, are just a jumping off point for loud, catchy rock songs inspired by years of obsessively listening to Guided by Voices and Fountains of Wayne. Two Hundred Thousand Dollars was recorded, produced, and mixed by James Palko, mastered by Zach Weeks at God City Studios, and features new addition Kyle Meggison (formerly of Worst Party Ever) on drums. Most of the album was recorded live, the first album where all four Camp Trash members were in the room together with the united goal of writing something that was, above all, fun to play and fun to listen to. Recorded over five days in September 2024, the band worked from the moment they woke up until late in the night, sleeping on air mattresses on the studio floor to save time.
What resulted was 10 songs of big guitar indie rock that pay homage to several decades of guitar pop and the character-based storytelling of bands like The Mountain Goats and the Weakerthans.
