"CAIL is as an umbrella for all the prerequisite knowledge required to have an expert-level critical perspective, such as to tell apart nonsense hype from true theoretical computer scientific claims"
My 9th grader is fully disgusted with getting AI feedback on his work. My college students are baffled by my handwritten marginalia and feedback, and no-LLM-tolerance. Conclusion: we can reach them, but only if we take them seriously enough to require the real work from ourselves & them

This is sort of understandable when dealing with COVID-era first year undergrads bc they don’t understand that I will be *reading* their essays…but honestly, no excuses here for anyone who thinks they’re, like, a grown-up

10.10.2025 20:27 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0So, say you’re an alt-ac third-space staff/adjunct person who’s scheduled for a presentation in a class that was arranged weeks ahead of time, and you walk through a rainstorm and flooded campus to find a note on the whiteboard from the prof casually cancelling class. How mad should you be?

I didn't spend 10 years in mines of academia to be told ignorance is morally equal knowledge.
We know exactly how LLMs work.
Anderson felt her bio was authentically her even if it was written by a chatbot. “My bio is 100 percent in alignment with my true personality,” she told me. “I don’t have a filter. I’m very witty. I’m full of personality.” Nor did she think using ChatGPT reflected the “bare minimum energy” she loathed. “It took me an hour and change to drill down my bio to be that good,” she explained. “I had to edit it, edit it, edit it down. I have to keep talking to it.” On the other hand, she admits that ChatGPT has sapped her motivation to write a first draft of anything herself, even though she minored in writing in college and described herself as a “wordsmith.” “I’m gonna be honest with you: Once you use ChatGPT, you don’t want to think for yourself anymore,” she said.
imagine relying on AI to write your bio and then having the nerve to say you're witty and full of personality

Blackburn said nothing when a professor at this *same university* last year was unmasked by antifascists as a popular, pseudonymous neo-Nazi propagandist who attended the deadly Unite The Right rally in Charlottesville.
14.09.2025 18:27 — 👍 1246 🔁 317 💬 14 📌 3Yeah, if you're in the media and someone insists that "they" were celebrating his murder and therefore "they" have to suffer some sort of retribution, you have an obligation to ask who "they" are and what, specifically, they did to celebrate this.
You can't just let them throw that gas on the fire.
Oh hey! An appropriately unimpressed colleague is a source for the piece, that’s cool
Good on ya, Brad East of ACU
I am literally scared to even read this absolutely appalling report
But I feel professionally obligated as a theologian with a research interest in technology
Please pray for me, now and in the hour of my death which might be now, this might just finish me off, y’all
Reading about this brought to mind a piece I wrote two years ago, inspired by one of my favourite authors.
Ursula K. Le Guin emphasized that there’s a big difference “between production of a market commodity and the practice of an art.” OpenAI’s AI-generated movie offers us nothing.
Report launch graphic for MediaJustice's newest report, "The People Say No: Resisting Data Centers in the South." The graphic is divided in two sides: on the left we have a sort of environmental utopia with wide canyons and folks in a canoe going by a stream. On the right we have the alternative, rows of data center equipment with endless wiring.
TODAY, we're launching The People Say No: Resisting Data Centers in the South, our report dedicated to exposing data center harms in the South and how our people are fighting back.
