I think that the people that want to be rich are already not empathetic to begin with and having the money actually just let's them be who they always were. I would very much like to know how they came to that conclusion as there are so many variables and ways to test this...

There are also studies that suggest wealth leads to decreases empathy. So not only do you believe yourself to be smarter than everyone else. You tend to think you did it all on your own and everyone else is just lazy. Thus, you are entitled to more than the lazy, dumb masses.
