This is not the Holocaust come again. This is not genocide. US Americans have some shitty views on trans people, but polling consistently shows that “round up trans folks and forcibly detransition them” would be political suicide. Follow facts. Our feelings are treacherous.

If you live in a red state, you are likely much more in danger from state laws and regulations. These federal guidelines are cruel, but they are not something that is likely to affect you at all. Let them energize you against the administration; do not let yourself fall into despair.

There are not federal laws outlawing being trans. There are not going to be federal laws outlawing being trans. Congress is unlikely to pass such laws, and federal courts will almost certainly strike any down, as they continue to strike down many of this administration’s illegal actions.

I understand that things right now are very frightening. However, in order for this particular action to affect you, you need to be convicted of a federal crime and sentenced to prison. You do not go to a federal prison for violating a state criminal ordinance.

The administration guidance is evil. It will cause real harm. It is also one of many decisions the administration has made that have been struck down or put on hold. There is every reason to believe that this will also be subject to injunction.

Yeah, that doesn't surprise me--the original law immediately conflicted with a bunch of other statutes. Of course, a big overhaul like you describe will immediately cause absurd problems that a moment of thinking would avoid, but hey, that's life, I guess.
