Dear Senators Shaheen, Hassan and King: While I disagree with the deal you negotiated, I respect you.

But GOP Senators do not respect you. They spat in your faces by secretly including a corrupt provision to pay 8 GOP Senators.

I request that you reverse this provision in Jan.

Brandon Silverman explains how many social media platforms have made their data — and therefore their role in any number of societal concerns within the public interest — increasingly opaque by limiting access to researchers, even as they sell that same data to companies.

Here, none of the four Waller factors are satisfied. To begin with the fourth factor,
the Court’s sole finding were that the use of the husher would serve efficiency and protect
jurors’ privacy. The interest in efficiency is not “overriding” when it conflicts with a
defendant’s constitutional rights. While juror privacy could be an “overriding interest” in
some instances, it is not an overriding interest where no juror has expressed concern or
requested additional safeguards. See Cable News Network, Inc. v. United States, 824 F.2d
1046, 1048 (D.C. Cir. 1987) (holding that “in order to minimize the risk of unnecessary
closure trial courts should require prospective jurors to make affirmative requests for
private voir dire examination…”) (citation modified).

As @ryanjreilly.com has been reporting, Trump appointee Carl Nichols unilaterally decided to conduct voir dire in sandwich thrower Sean Dunn's trial over husher phones, so no one can follow along.

This is fairly insane.

In any case, I'd love to read a piece interviewing Mike Johnson's constituents.

Louisiana has nearly 800,000 SNAP recipients and the food pantries in his district hub of Shreveport are already scrambling to make up the difference. I bet there will be some stories there.

Designating Antifa as FTO Could Threaten Civil Liberties Trump's plan to designate Antifa as an FTO has implications extending beyond anti-fascist activists to the architecture of US civil society.

The Trump admin is considering designating Antifa as a foreign terrorist organization.

Thomas E. Brzozowski argues this move would create an unprecedented expansion of counterterrorism authorities into the domestic political space and threaten civil society.

Infographic titled “Democratic Ecosystem.” Three large curved arrows form a clockwise loop: Donors at the top (magenta), Campaigns on the right (gold), and Activists on the left (sage green). Together they create an incomplete circle with a visible gap at the bottom. A small blue square labeled Advocacy Media sits outside the loop, connected by a thin arrow from Activists, showing weak integration. To the right, a large blue box labeled Mainstream Media represents the dominant external media sphere. Credit at lower left reads “Matthew Sheffield, flux.community.” The design contrasts with the “Republican Ecosystem” version by emphasizing the Democratic side’s weaker feedback loop between activists, donors, and media.

Since Barack Obama, Democratic presidential candidates and "dark money" groups have raised more money than Republicans--often doubling them.

So much of the Dem money is wasted. Publishing a piece on this Sunday explaining these graphs and much more. I need your help to make the piece viral. Thanks!

Merkley: "What we've seen is that democracies no longer die bc men w/guns go in and take it over. Instead, it's electeds who erode the separation of power. If you have a rubber-stamp Congress & courts that deliver more power to the executive, suddenly you have an authoritarian state. It's here now."
