This is the first half of the contents of a small blacksmith shop, I'll have to go back to pick up the rest later, including a small power hammer.
If you need forging tools around #Oslo, or in #Norway in general, give me a shout!

Custom stainless steel rose, made for a customer that wanted a little something special for their partner. Because everlasting love deserves an everlasting rose, right?

Picked up a new little anvil and a leg vice today.

Some medium sized bending from last year.
Was a good little challenge bending 50x20 flatbar the difficult way by hand. Having a very solid steel table I could weld a bending fork to helped a great deal.

Teaching a knife forging class this weekend, with forge welding, and figured it would be prudent of me to practice a bit before then.
Anyway, I think I got the shape for a knife figured out. What do you think?

Doing the twist!
When twisting steel, you want to keep the area to be twisted at an even temperature, and what's more even than room temperature?

Making swage tools
It's the good old, need a tool make a tool, and when you got a system figured out, why not make a batch?

Sparkling Fun
A strange little something often happens when grinding steel, the old steel dust sometimes ignites. I find it mesmerising, and a bit beautiful to see the colours dance. But I might be the weird one.

New tool in the shop!
A massive No6 fly press in very nice condition. Need to make a bunch of tooling for this, but I can already tell that it's going to be a great addition to the shop, and just in time for making goods for the comming Christmas markets.

Bending spirals
Working on some spiral ends for some handrails, and doing some final adjustments. Had to forge some large bending forks for this, because my old ones are a bit short, and left me with burnt knuckles.

Ambidextrous Forgings
Simply because it can be easier to change hands rather than reposition everything, also to prove it wasn't a fluke last time.

Tong Assembly
Having a gas torch felt like the biggest luxury investment when I first bought it, but it comes in handy so many times. Especially in a shop without a coal forge.

Shaping Tongs
This is the third heat, but not the last. Here I'm just roughing in the shape of the tongs and the transition to the arms. There's a little bit of fiddling left, final shaping, riveting and adjustments. Look for some of that in future videos.

Forging tongs.
I might be brainwashed, but I find great pleasure in practicing simple things to perfection, or at least an imitation. Here I'm drawing out the reins for some tongs, trying my best to do it quick and smooth, all in one heat.

Sometimes, being ambidextrous comes in handy.
As long as you don't bonk yourself in the head.

Pergola is up!
This was the third job for this customer, and as with the other two, also here there was a lot of first for me, but we got it done and installed, and I'm, in all modesty, quite pleased with the result.

Speedy Nail Forgings

A little something on the possibility of Norwegian made gas forges.

Quick little nail forging
Working on restoring some old chest hinges, and they do of course need some appropriate hand forged nails.

Long Railing Tapers
Working some 30 mm round down on the power hammer for some long spirals to go on the end of some handrails. Here rough forging it down almost finished length, then I'll go back and smooth everything out, before curling it all up.

Texturing maple leaves
I like to film parts of my process to see how I'm actually doing things. It's very easy to get stuck inside my own head, and not fully realise how I actually move through a process and get things done.

Sharp and shiny
Using some scotch brite belts to do the final touches on this project, removing scratches and evening out the texture. Soon to be picked up by the customer.

Working on a pointy thing.
This is roughly forged, including fuller. It was a first for me forging the fuller in, but I think it turned out alright. Although, as always, more practice is needed.

In the process of expanding the range of dies we offer to our guillotine tools, I made this special little thing.
Made so that I can both forge the short taper, and resquare the sides in one go. It's a bit of a tight fit, but it works.
