Thank you @writagal.bsky.social for always lighting the way. We have had an uptick in donations today and they are so very welcome. I reckon after today, we all know whatโ€™s needed is a safe and secure alternative reporting option - and thatโ€™s what weโ€™ve built @tika

I'm so sick of the "Luxon faces questions ..." alerts from RNZ.

The man is a walking excuse.

You wouldn't be able to get a straight answer from him on directions to the bathroom

I want you to understand what it is like to live in Chicago during this time.

Every day my phone buzzes. It is a neighborhood group: four people were kidnapped at the corner drugstore. A friend a mile away sends a Slack message: she was at the scene when masked men assaulted and abducted two people on the street. A plumber working on my pipes is distraught, and I find out that two of his employees were kidnapped that morning. A week later it happens again.

An email arrives. Agents with guns have chased a teacher into the school where she works. They did not have a warrant. They dragged her away, ignoring her and her colleaguesโ€™ pleas to show proof of her documentation. That evening I stand a few feet from the parents of Rayito de Sol and listen to them describe, with anguish, how good Ms. Diana was to their children. What it is like to have strangers with guns traumatize your kids. For a teacher to hide a three-year-old child for fear they might be killed. How their relatives will no longer leave the house. I hear the pain and fury in their voices, and I wonder who will be next.

Understand what it is to pray in Chicago.

Govt's climate strategy: Let it burn Comment: The Government has relentlessly pursued policies that boost climate pollution โ€“ even if they cost more or jeopardise NZ's reputation, Marc Daalder writes

Paywall lifted: At every turn, the Govt has opted for whatever would actually lead to more pollution and a warmer world โ€“ even if it costs more, jeopardises NZโ€™s reputation, overturns a campaign promise or clashes with the Govtโ€™s other priorities.

The long retreat:

it does seem like thereโ€™s a majorโ€”though potentially fleetingโ€”opportunity to invest in left-wing media. more than a million people in the most populous city in america just enthusiastically elected a democratic socialist and the world is watching. putting $$ towards left media rn is good business.

Itโ€™s been a pleasure working with Lex and everyone in the politics vertical at Teen Vogue. Iโ€™m heartbroken that my column, Disability Visibility, is gone. Teen Vogue was one of the few places that published disabled journalists regularly. I just spent the last 2 months working on my next column

There is no such thing as a bipartisan agreement

If you don't assume the right will do everything they can to tear down anything they don't like, you're not being serious

Wellington Girls' College ignoring ministry advice by telling some students to stay home after measles cases The school have put classes online for years 9, 10 and 11.

i know this is too long a headline but it would be so cool to highlight that this school *followed* ministry advice which led to 900 close contacts of student with measles. Our government is not serious people.

"what if everyone got more sick more often" has been the only consistent government take away from the pandemic

(And no, they are not interested in knowing the answer to that question, just repeatedly asking it)

โ€˜Expertsโ€™ on saving for retirement in New Zealand never talk about low wages or extortionate rents and childcare costs. Telling people to save, while supporting the status quo that makes it impossible really grinds my gears. #nzpol

Could Wellington Girls be the watershed moment where people realise that government's willingness to throw people under the bus for political reasons doesn't just apply to "other" people

Yes, it would be nice if editors understood framing

I am slightly heartened by the fact that a big name school has had to public recognise that ministry advice cannot be trusted

This is your periodic reminder that conservatives don't care about being called hypocrites

To them, the whole point of getting power is so that the rules won't apply to them

I'm sure this won't turn out to be a bad thing...

This is good, but not all schools are going to have the political will to oppose government health policy that's run by cookers
