Before I set off for my next section yesterday, I re-visited a spot from the rainy day before where I was convinced I had a fleeting glimpse of one of the North East's rarer bumbles...

Two charts showing the number of records per week for the years 2021 to 2025. Dark-edged Bee-fly has had a strong peak in records in late March and early April. Dotted Bee-fly got off to a strong start in late March.
Good news for bee-flies! They have been reported much more frequently this year, and in mid-April we have already had more 2025 records than we did for the whole of 2024, for both Dark-edged and Dotted Bee-flies. This is likely to be due to the much sunnier weather this year. #BeeFlyWatch 1/4
