regardless of today’s outcome, it is morally indefensible to have a court ruling on something that affects a population, using evidence and findings that did not consult a single member of that population.

Please do also *pay* people to do 'EDI'/inclusion roles! Diversity at trustee level is crucial, but just seemingly prioritising diverse insight in unpaid positions is shallow & often abandons critical viewpoints from folk who sit at the intersection between working class & other marginalised groups.

Not to be that dickhead, but I wrote & proposed a policy regarding this YEARS ago and the theatre I was working with at the time said it was unnecessary. It isn't.

Platforming marginalised people without centring their safety & wellbeing isn't inclusive - it's performative. We can do better, pals.

Honestly a bit grossed out by the 'you/ your loved ones could become disabled, so we should care about disability rights' posts, you know. We should care about disability rights because there *are* disabled people. That should be all it takes.

Sorry, I know there's bigger shit happening, but at a time when safety feels so tenuous for so many, now more than ever we need play-houses to offer sanctuary to more people than just those who already know they belong.

Tidy the fuck up before you have people round your house.

Don't know how to do this? Pay people who do. You know who they are. You googled them so that you could reference them in your MYF applications.

While we're at it, if you're an org that's made a commitment to welcoming underrepresented folk into your building, in whatever capacity, you need to get supportive practices & policies in place first, to enable any engagement to be authentic, long term, safe and MUTUALLY beneficial. In short:

I was commissioned by Culture Counts to write something responding to the theme 'dreaming of a fairer future for culture', which I'll be reading at their core members meeting next week.

It'll be my first time reading work aloud & I'm genuinely worried I'm going to ruin my whole ~vibe~ by crying.

Just begging theatre orgs to commit to ringfencing a percentage of programming funds to commission writers who otherwise simply cannot afford to write.

The canon can't always fire backwards, babe. Show faith in your contemporary community.

Ok buckle up, rant incoming. I am very tired of organisations, big and small, talking endlessly about our industry and how we can make it fairer, better, not as mental health damaging and then adapting the same old shite practices we've had for over a decade now. Some examples:
