DPS approved a $222 million request for county funding for the upcoming school year. The request to the county is nearly $16 million over last year’s, which featured a historic funding increase.
The new budget seeks to resolve concerns over ongoing issues such as transportation and staff salaries.
Isaiah and Shane Jernigan spend weekends prepping dishes for customers of Family Meal, their Durham-based food delivery service. On Mondays, these meals are delivered to customers’ doorsteps.
“Sometimes people don’t want anything fancy,” said Isaiah. “It’s the food that makes people feel good.”
Around 800 community members came to the "Durham Protecting Democracy" rally on Saturday, protesting the Trump administration's deportations, proposals to gut federal agencies, DOGE threats to social security, and tariffs.

The city spent $1.7 million to repair sidewalks along W Club Blvd. But residents say the work has made the sidewalks less walkable and less accessible.
“It’s aggravating,” one resident said. “But for people with accessibility issues, it’s a real problem.”

This month, a bill was filed in the NC General Assembly that, if passed, would prohibit voter registration drives from using real registration forms. 🗳️
