I resent the idea that Black and brown books must be written to educate and that promoting Black and brown books inherently means that my focus must be helping people grow. What if Black and brown books exist because, you know… we are human beings and artists? Nobody was thinking about you, Joe! 🙄

It was just thousands of likes on a comment I made about my mental breakdown always being; should I cut bangs? get a tattoo? or a piercing?

Needless to say, I never comment anymore.

NOPE, I am so glad my brain doesn't do that. The one time, I made a comment on a TikTok video and forgot about it, a week later, I logged in, and the notification pop-up showed a stupidly high number and I was like OMFG, what did I say? Why am I being cancelled? Who hates me??

Sustainable marketing = marketing you can actually keep doing. And that looks different for everyone. Find what works for you and ditch the rest. No guilt. No burnout. Just progress.

Marketing shouldn’t feel like a second job you hate. If your current strategy feels impossible to keep up with, it’s time to change it. Your well-being matters more than an algorithm.

Instead of maxing out your energy for minimal results, try this:
✅ Pick one platform you don’t hate
✅ Post once a week (or when you have energy)
✅ Talk about what excites you—not just your books

Posting 3x a day, 7 days a week, on a platform that punishes self-promotion is a losing game. The algorithm won’t reward you, but burnout will find you. So why play by broken rules?

Sustainable marketing is about affordability, and I don’t just mean money. What can you mentally afford? How much energy do you have left after writing, life, and, you know, being a human?

You won’t find me preaching “post 3x a day” or “be on every platform.” Why? Because that’s a straight shot to burnout, and I actually like seeing authors succeed, not self-destruct.

I’m neuro-spicy, and so are most of my author clients. That means 90% of my job is helping them avoid burnout. Because what good is marketing if you’re too exhausted to write? 🧵👇 #indieauthors

Posting “buy my book” every day? Exhausting. Instead, share what you love—books, tropes, weird facts. Readers follow authors, not ads. #IndieAuthors

Email Lists Aren’t Scary, I Swear.
You don’t need fancy funnels. A monthly “here’s what I’m up to” email works. Readers want you, not corporate nonsense. #IndieAuthors
