Really enjoying this series of Origin Story. I’m learning a lot while mostly enjoying discovering the sheer levels of deep craziness of many of the key protagonists.

There is an actual life-changing conflict between WFH being cheaper and more efficient, an entire layer of middle managers who need to have meetings to feel alive, and the commercial real estate cabal that runs all cities. It’s going to get so fucking weird.

All of this reminds me of bedtime stories with my children where the rhymes just did not work unless you added random (to me) β€œr”s at the ends of words.

The Nobel Peace Prize committee's decision to honour someone who has tirelessly campaigned against dictatorship is both worthwhile and welcome, and objectively very funny.

I had the exact same thought. Then immediately thought: how do I know that phrase, and what does it even mean?

How long will it take America to recover from being the laughing stock of the world?

Actually there are just too many living rent-free in my head.

Actually it is: β€œBreak it up boys. That belly ain’t gonna get any pinker.”

It’s fascinating that he essentially renders everything the same way now β€” as thin lines graduating into one thicker line. The genius must be in his compositions and camera angles.

The dawn of the post-literate society And the end of civilisation

Honestly I found this to be quite a grim read but I think that it is an important essay to share. πŸ“š

I think this was already announced earlier in the year and abandoned once they realised it was unworkable.

You guys, so many Romance girlies are reading "On Tyranny" that they've broken the Goodreads recommendations algorithm. 10/10; no notes.

I remember reading that in paperback, along with Cryptonomicon, Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell and, most ridiculously, Infinite Jest. Never again. While I still purchase and enjoy physical volumes I agree that it has to be ebook-only for any modern equivalents of those behemoths.

I can’t recall who suggested it on here, but Rebellion really should publish a collection of all of those Titan album covers. They were uniformly excellent.

Delightful. Arguably parodying Anderson’s distinctive stylistic tics is somewhat like shooting fish in a barrel, but this is spot on. The presumably low/no budget only adds to the charm.
