Really enjoying this series of Origin Story. I’m learning a lot while mostly enjoying discovering the sheer levels of deep craziness of many of the key protagonists.

There is an actual life-changing conflict between WFH being cheaper and more efficient, an entire layer of middle managers who need to have meetings to feel alive, and the commercial real estate cabal that runs all cities. It’s going to get so fucking weird.

All of this reminds me of bedtime stories with my children where the rhymes just did not work unless you added random (to me) “r”s at the ends of words.

It’s fascinating that he essentially renders everything the same way now — as thin lines graduating into one thicker line. The genius must be in his compositions and camera angles.

I remember reading that in paperback, along with Cryptonomicon, Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell and, most ridiculously, Infinite Jest. Never again. While I still purchase and enjoy physical volumes I agree that it has to be ebook-only for any modern equivalents of those behemoths.

First ever cover with separate gloss paper stock if I recall correctly. Which made it seem extra special.

Delightful. Arguably parodying Anderson’s distinctive stylistic tics is somewhat like shooting fish in a barrel, but this is spot on. The presumably low/no budget only adds to the charm.
