My brother's daughter lives in CO and he has found the train from Muscatine (i think) a great way to visit her. Are you in Eastern Iowa now (I am, too)

We were in Va Beach last summer and they were flying over constantly. But that was an issue of location

Make that Snickers with Almonds and there is no comparison. With almost anything (maybe a soft 100 Grand, but they get to be tough)

We did tininckling

And square dancing. A local guy who was a square dance caller came in and taught us

And ballroom (I guess) dancing: foxtrot, waltz, polka. I still like to polka (fun fact: Mollie B is my 2nd cousin)

The foxtrot is just what the country types call the two-step

I made the kids come out to see. I won't say it's once in a lifetime, but this is by far the best I've seen in my 57 years. I've seen the northern lights before, but farther north than here and never nearly as bright and colorful. To see this in Indiana blows me away!

Here's our northern light view tonight. Remarkable! The northern sky was bright red, no camera needed.

I think this is an example of, "If you were kidnapped, what message if you sent it would let your friends know you are in trouble?" This is their plea to be rescued.

Someone needs to explain to me the basis for opposition to a federal Bivens act.
Supporter: this will prevent the feds from violating people's civil rights
Opposition: we need to allow the feds to violate people's civil rights.

What am I missing?

There are no "secret" health care plans. Any serious plan will have been vetted and discussed somewhere - if not in economics journals, at least by the Heritage Foundation. If it hasn't been discussed and vetted, why would you think it would be a good idea?

When we used gradescope in gen chem with 2400 students we'd routinely have 130 answer groups for numerical answers, covering maybe 60% of the class, with 30 of them being correct

The fun part is that there had to be at least 2 instances of each to recognize it as a group! How many students?

They are going to accept 4-5 grad students in chem&chembio? Their research will all be done by postdocs?

I'm glad (and amazed) that I could provide chemdraw advice. That's rare. But when you do reactive intermediates you figure that one out...

For long trips, I tend to zoom out and look at the bigger picture including alternate routes. Google maps can fail badly but have lots of success. In particular, when we need to navigate Chicago (going through or going around) it's been outstanding. We don't have to guess which way will be best

The phone number for Mutual of Omaha

Shoot, we didn't even have that. The last 4 all started with 9...so we had to remember the last 3

To enter "Mom" on your keypad, you enter 666.

Just sayin...

Absolutely, I agree. I will say, yes, we had to remember the numbers but I am not at all nostalgic for it. I much prefer today. Ditto on paper maps. Yeah, we used them but Google maps is way better.

13.10.2025 20:27 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Heck, we only to know the last 3, because the others were all 532-9vvv. Add in that my friends and us all had similar numbers so they were easy to remember

9258
9253
9844
9484

These were phone numbers I probably last called 45 years ago (except for the top one - that was my mom and dad)

While on one hand, I love the idea of carrying out these observations during the eclipse to get such a cool result, having gone through the experience of the eclipse, I don't think I'd like to sacrifice the opportunity to just soak up the experience by worrying about tracking birdies.
