Temporary Pause for Some Student Clubs
Staff who may have been sponsoring a club are not assigned to run clubs, they volunteer their time to do this. During contract negotiations some staff are unable to continue this sponsorship. All clubs must have an approved adult sponsor who agrees to supervision, safety procedures, and district expectations before the club can operate. If your child's student club is not active at this time, students may still choose to connect virtually (Google Meet or similar platforms) to collaborate independently but may not meet in person.

Some families have asked if other adults can help. Yes β€” but all volunteers must complete required steps first, including:

Annual background check (Board Policy 7350)

School safety and supervision expectations

Club advisors must also:

Keep a student roster and meeting attendance

Provide active supervision at all times

Know student health and emergency procedures

Maintain emergency contact information

Communicate schedules and updates

Ensure safe dismissal

Reinforce behavior expectations

If a parent/guardian is interested in taking over sponsorship of a club, please email Jefferson Bilsborrow bilsborrow@aaps.k12.mi.us.

AAPS can't get their act together to pay their teachers fairly. And now school-level admin is asking for parents to be scabs during contract negotiations. We need solidarity with teachers, don't do this. #a2schools #a2boardofed #a2council

Our current building codes aren't working well. Single stair reform would allow safe, more affordable, better ventilated small and mid-rise buildings in the places where they fit.

Even though I keep hearing that City Council is a "machine" that votes in lockstep, according to data analysis, Ann Arbor’s council has the highest dissent rate in America. Seventeen years of voting data across 142 cities explain why. #A2Council

Really interesting read. Highly recommend.

The City That Won’t Agree 142 cities. 8.1 million votes. One massive outlier. Ann Arbor’s council fights more than any other in America.

You think that’s wild, check out the linked analysis: district.myhamlet.com/articles/ann...

β€œAnn Arbor probably breeds dissent by temperament, and certain councils crank the volume up.”

Of course there’s a bunch of folks in the DDA’s replies complaining that the building is ugly. Which, I completely do not understand. It’s unremarkable, sure. But ugly? It’s a simple and honest design with just enough color to break up the massing without excessive faΓ§ade articulation.

Great news! Nice to see some affordable housing being added to our downtown. Great example of a community-led, city funded development. Onward to the Y-Lot at 350 S Fifth! #A2Council

Quote from Governor Gretchen Whitmer's 2026 State of the State address: "Our laws have made it easy to expand suburbs but hard to build walkable downtowns and main streets or do more with your own property. It shouldn't be so hard to build the homes people need in the places where they want to live."

Gretchen Whitmer is on point: We need more homes and allowing more choices and more building will help get us there.

🧡 Living in Michigan, if a political issue seems frustratingly impossible to advance, you can almost always find the roots in policies motivated by racial and economic segregation. When you scrape back the "housing theory of everything" you find racism and classism under the hood.

Residential protectionism reigns, only "major streets" will get upzoned. Sadly the unwashed masses won't get gas fireplaces either.

Tho I do low-key love the idea that #a2council might protect Burns Park from upzoning only for the state to do an end-around and eliminate lot size restrictions.

As Michigan lawmakers look to update state zoning laws to allow for additional housing, I think it would be great if we could look at the idea of pre-approved house plans. Cities such as Ann Arbor should do this as well.

The Ann Arbor Chronicle | Sidewalk Issue Paused, Video Law Stopped

Here is an article from the Chronicle that… chronicles the ordinance that was voted down (including a link to the text: annarborchronicle.com/wp-content/u...). I think in light of technological and political changes it’s probably worth bringing something like this forward again.

🧡 #A2Council Council made the same choice by kneecapping potential density in most of the city zoned for residential use in the upcoming Comprehensive Plan. The loudest, least safe stroads with the worst air quality are where significant new density is "allowed."

I think it would come down to expectation of privacy in a public space. You can’t point a camera into your neighbor’s window or fenced backyard, but you can point it at the street.

I’m speculating though. If we can ban them, we should.

And in the meantime we should ban the city from using them.

24.02.2026 13:50 β€” πŸ‘ 4    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

I don’t know. Probably not, unfortunately.

I would like to see something like @chuckwarp.bsky.social’s surveillance camera ordinance that was floated a few years ago and tabled come back. It would control what the city can use cameras for as well as storage/disposal of footage.
