Text on infographic reads: Never too busy to recycle: Re-introducing proper waste streams to Cardiffβs Major Trauma Centre. Aim: To re-introduce domestic, offensive and recycling bags to the University Hospital of Wales (UHW) Emergency Department in line with new Welsh legislation and the RCEM Green ED Framework. Outcomes: After successful implementation in January 2024, savings over 6 months were estimated based on an audit of 24h of waste completed in May 2024, using the waste calculator from the RCEM Green ED portal. Clinical: Improved awareness of correct and safe disposal of waste. Environmental: 9243.78kg CO2e saved by diverting waste from high temperature incineration, potential to increase with education Financial: Β£3619.98 saved, potential to increase with education. Social: Improved awareness of and engagement in the sustainability agenda amongst staff and patients, with lots of positive feedback.
