Coming from one of the many subfields of CS that primarily uses conferences, I wish the rest of the scientific world would notice us sometimes :)
E.g. re: the comment about needing 4-5 reviews, there are some conferences where this is normal. And reviewer matching + workload mgmt is much easier.

Even with quality checks from PC chairs there will occasionally be bad actors who go undetected until publication, right now dealing with that in reasonable time is effectively impossible because the incentives for publishers to act aren't there.

Good move.
Next step, expect reasonable standards from publishers, e.g., it's increasingly hard to justify giving time (and paper/conf fees) when publisher staff can't be bothered to take action on plagiarism for 5 years because it wasn't reported through the right form.

For your information, this is what one day of the so-called Russian βenergy ceasefireβ looked like - something foreign media outlets, for some reason, simply call a βceasefire.β
It is unclear when it began or when it will end.
This is what it was like: π§΅
The Swiss French name for it translates literally to "Cheese from Italy" so it's not just the Germans being weird about this ^^
31.01.2026 20:43 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Left: Original Figure 10, containing panels from 2 groups (A and B, in 2 columns) and 6 different organs (in 6 rows, heart, liver, spleen, stomach, lung, kidney). I have added colored boxes to highlight that several panels in the original appear to contain duplicated (photoshopped?) areas. Right: Figure in the same orientation as on the left, but all panels now look different. Still, two sets overlap
I know that @frontiersin.bsky.social are trying hard to be taken seriously.
But addressing the problems in the original figure (left) by a completely new set of panels (that also have problems; right) puts them straight back into predatory journal range.
