Why this isn’t a happy Veterans Day OPINION: With the military being used to occupy American cities, honoring veterans without acknowledging unlawful deployment stateside is a disservice to the nation, Joseph Holsworth writes.

🧡A veteran speaks out on Trump this Veteran's Day.

"There is not a single man or woman in uniform who signed up to deploy to American cities for this mission. There is no honor in this service. "

"Wantonly deploying our service members to do the bidding of a dictatorial regime...

81 years ago, FDR proposed a second Bill of Rights to guarantee every American the right to employment, healthcare, education, housing, and a living income. His words are as relevant now as they were then. Watch.

There was never going to be a 100% win in this. It is a fight. It will resume in Dec and again in Jan and perhaps beyond. The GOP missed an easy win with voters. People can see how they wanted to take health care and food support, etc…all while building a ballroom, tearing down the East Wing.

While I'm not wholly on board with the war on Christmas, we do have to deal with its unlawful occupation of November.

Look a 100% win with this morally destitute group of Republicans was never in the cards. The dems got the best alternative and they get to beat the GOP with the healthcare stick into β€˜26. The judo move for the GOP would’ve been to agree to the ACA subsidies. Now the dems can engage it again in Jan

This may be what the dems calculated. A full win was unlikely. But a partial is what they got and they can still show the GOP’s ugly side well into next year. Easy win opportunity missed by the GOP-

I guess 2.
However, this will come up again as an issue either way. If the GOP gave in on healthcare they could probably spin it to their credulous supporters as a win. But if they don’t β€œfix” healthcare then the Democrats/independents can beat them about it into next fall.

Dems backed Trump into a corner where he’s advocating for starving Americans and hemorrhaging support. If they vote to let him off the hook in exchange for nothing it’s a cataclysmic failure. I know people are in pain but insulating Republicans from political consequences is not the answer.

Jesus Christ, @kaine.senate.gov, getting a pinky promise to hold one single vote on ACA funding is not "a path toward fixing the health care mess" anymore than a lottery ticket is a "path toward fixing my personal finances"

I've looked at all the details of this deal to end the shutdown reached by a small group of Senate Democrats. I've talked to a number of friends on the Hill to see if there's anything I'm missing. Sadly, I am not.

This is a shit deal. It's a betrayal. It's cowardice.

New: Sens. King, Shaheen, Hassan led negotiations on a deal that will have enough Democratic support to pass in the Senate, I'm told.

This is the package:

- CR thru Jan 30
- A vote on a ACA bill by a December, on a DEM bill
- Minibus WHICH INCLUDES reversal of shutdown RIFs and back pay and protections against them happening in the future
PLUS SNAP is funded through the fiscal year 26

Dems have spent the past two months saying they're fighting to address the crisis of spiking healthcare costs and now they're caving for a deal that does nothing to address healthcare costs Β―\_(ツ)_/Β―

If the Dems blink after all of this, for a deal that all but ensures no ACA subsidies in 2026 anyway, then what was the purpose of letting the shutdown go for 40 days in the first place?
