I joined Dan Seljak for a coffee at a neighborhood cafe (that would currently be banned from opening in Toronto) to discuss how local retail like this, along with grocers and convenience stores, contribute to our quality of life.

Streetcars are supposed to come every ten minutes or better. But arrival is highly erratic.

How do we change this? By getting private cars out of the way.

The average car has just one person in it. And is almost never full.

The average streetcar will hold over 100 people several times a day.

For people who live in Beaconsfield or along Dovercourt, these are the people claiming to represent you to city council. They hate Dovercourt and your neighbourhood and want the restaurants shut down.

How it possible that Jamaal Myers has taken no accountability for things like this? A true failure of leadership with 60% reliability is insane!

Matt Elliott: Without acknowledging hard truths, Toronto’s traffic czar isn’t likely to get very far It’s probably good that this new position will come with a handsome salary because this traffic czar will be given an impossible task. There’s no solving Toronto traffic, writes Matt Elliott.

My @thestar.com column: City hall is finally hiring a traffic czar. But I worry it’s a sucker gig.

With too many cars and limited roads, there’s no fixing Toronto traffic for drivers. To make any progress, this car czar should be ready to tell some hard truths.

Connecting Esplanade to Adelaide via Yonge Street, protected cycle tracks on that section of Yonge Street would be awesome!!!

Happy Thanksgiving, Toronto. I'm grateful for the TTC and all its hard-working staff delivering transit service which I rarely have to wait more than 5-10 mins for at all hours of the day. Even with all its faults, the TTC delivers one of the most usable transit services in all of North America.

Toronto’s Cycling and Pedestrian Projects Team continues to hit it out of the park. Out for a ride today and here’s just some of the new cycling facilities that I came across. New concrete planters and permanent curbs on Harbord Street. /1

The main reason city streets are dangerous for children isn’t because of crime.

It’s because of cars.

Palmerston/Bloor should be approaching One Million people cycling so far this year in the coming weeks. πŸ’₯

the waterfront is terrific, we are so lucky to have it and, every year, more and more of it is open to the public, more connections made, new promenades and walking areas, its one of if not the best urban waterfronts in the world in my opinion!

The bike rave this week was filmed for the German-produced TV show "Megacities", about night life around the world. The route we took led us along the waterfront, and through many of the areas I associate with Toronto's renewal in the past decade to a city that values public space.

I tried to explain this to fellow bike ravers, but was met with blank stares. Some people just want to have fun, and not everyone thinks it is fun to muse about the public realm. It's a good lesson to me on having friends outside the urban/architecture bubble.

If you are making side streets twice as wide as Queen Street you have lost the plot.

@buildtoronto.com this is a great start! lots of great ideas here. The only change to make is the arterials policy. At a minimum, if your not going to advocate for bike lanes there, you have to advocate for bus lanes/transit priority lanes.
