Paving the Way: Taking Bold Action Toward Environmental Justice YouTube video by School for Environment and Sustainability

If you (like me) need some wisdom, perspective, and hope in this moment, I gained some of each at this event last night. It’s totally worth a watch. www.youtube.com/live/z1MqVr2...

Any guesses on the degree to which the solar tax credits for homeowners are at risk of being undone? I know they currently go through 2032 but am reading different views about what may happen.

Farmers’ markets are a vital but overlooked part of fixing Canada’s struggling food system Farmers’ markets provide a host of benefits to both consumers and farmers, but are often overlooked when it comes to creating policies geared toward improving the sustainability of food systems.

Excellent research and article— that found that in Canada farmers market prices were not subject to the same degree of inflation related increases as supermarkets. Local food systems can be more resilient — and even more affordable— than industrial supply chains. theconversation.com/farmers-mark...

Monarch butterflies will get federal protections as a threatened species U.S. officials decided to extend protections to monarch butterflies after warnings from environmentalists that populations are shrinking and the beloved pollinator may not survive climate change.

Good news for the beloved monarch— not that it’s still in a precarious position, but because it will be afforded further protections. Having gone to the mountains they migrate to in Mexico and seen the migration up close, I have such admiration and awe for the monarch.

Taller vehicles are more dangerous to pedestrians, even at low speeds, research finds A study by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety shows higher speeds are worse for pedestrians regardless of vehicle height — but those risks are amplified for vehicles with taller front ends.

Bigger vehicles means a less safe environment for pedestrians. Europe has figured this out— come on, America. Taller vehicles amplify danger of speed in pedestrian crashes

I held out a wee bit of hope for the Ag Secretary nominee— in terms of the list of potential folks which included some people who were pretty pro small farmer, local food systems, & sustainability. Alas, the choice that was made was not any of these folks and doesn’t seem to bring any of that… sigh.

First snow of the season! (And first one for us in years since it snowed once during our 5 years in London.)

I’m grateful to live in a relatively small metro area (in a city of 20k, near city of 120k, within metro area of 365k) in the United States that has really solid bus service. While even tiny places in Europe are often served by train and/or bus, for us it’s a luxury! I miss double deckers, though!

Measuring 15-minute city access and inequality Nature Cities journal has created an interactive online database showing 15-minute walking and biking access in cities worldwide.

I think a lot about 15 minute cities, having spent the last 5 years in London (Ealing) before returning to SE Michigan. The lifestyle can’t be beat, and is physically and socially healthy for every age and level of mobility— it’s what I miss the most about the UK. www.cnu.org/publicsquare...
