@juliethecranky.bsky.social Also, you should check out the Actor Awards from tonight for fashion.
(It was on Netflix, so whatever in terms of who won, but the internet tells me men WORE COLOR.)

Oh, geez, I didn't even remember that.
I remember agreeing with them for like so many other reasons.
I was also, infuriatingly, 6 months too young to vote in 2000. Six. Fucking. Months.
Wait, so the thing that isn't trained in medicine, that just burns energy and water to mash together words based on some obscure algorithm written by (predominantly white) men, based on plagiarizing data...
Isn't right?
YOU DON'T SAY

OMG.
That was SUCH bullshit, and every (left-leaning) woman knew it.
I remember saying that I said shit like that all the time, and no one cared.
Fucking hell, Bruce Springsteen did, and he didn't get 2000s canceled!
JC is 40% immigrant. The most diverse city of it's size in the country. Literally connected to NYC by subway.
They are openly publishing racist pieces, and then copping out by saying, "this is what is sent to us".
YES, BECAUSE YOU GIVE THEM INK.
Stop giving them ink, you'll get better pieces!
No, the "editorial" part of the op-ed gets to come into play, here.
If the opinion is shit, if the policy is shit, if the sentiments expressed in the piece are shit - you don't have to publish it.
This is a huge argument in my local paper. They keep publishing racist assholes in JERSEY CITY.
I was 3 weeks into college and just barely 18 when 9/11 happened.
I just looked at my Gen Z coworkers this weekend and said, "I'm sorry. At least they lied - or tried to - to me about it all?"
THIS.
It's just...
I do not have the capacity to be shocked at bad actions from our government any more. I do not have the capacity to even be fucking horrified.
ESPECIALLY REPUBLICANS.
Like, of course they do bad shit. Tell me when they DID NOT?
My entire voting life has been this.
roadhouseendgame i was talking to my mom about cardassians and said something along the lines of what must it be like to be a cardassian civilian. like abstractly knowing the rest of the galaxy thinks of your species as 'the evil ones' and kinda sorta knowing your government runs labor camps and torture prisons and is a military empire, and it's a huge deal for everyone else in the galaxy, but you just like run a restaurant so it's not a big part of your daily life, so you just like, go about your day and make soup and don't think about it' and then halfway through my sentence i actually heard myself and then had to go sit down for like ten minutes. like sat down in a chair and stared at the floor for ten minutes
whoops

I LOVE Pippin.
Also, my school did it for the middle and upper schools when I was in 5th grade. So, you CAN cut it.
But it does have a romance.
There is a Schmigadoon about to premiere on B'way, and I'm kinda pissed because the two leads look white?
And the two leads in the show were Keegan-Michael Key and Cecily Strong. So, it was *very deliberately* a mixed race couple, which caused problems in the show?
(Also, new show = no rights)
As a historian, I'd just like to remind the politicians who follow me that it is not, in fact, 2003 anymore and the current GOP war in the Middle East is not, in fact, even remotely popular.
So if you're a weathervane who just tries to do what's already popular, full-throated opposition is it!
Hey, @juliethecranky.bsky.social - how much credit are we giving the "William fucking HATES Andrew" narrative?

I once had quite the argument with a white woman on the other place. She was ADAMANT that the "north" didn't have a racism problem.
Me, a proud Jersey Girl who loves her state, but will absolutely call us on our bullshit: "NEW JERSEY HAS THE MOST SEGREGATED SCHOOLS IN THE FUCKING NATION."
1. If you didn't fall in love with Tom Holland here, I want to know why. (Platonically, romantically, sexually, whatever, this entire performance is designed to make you want to be around him.)
2. There are precisely 2 famous couples I care about.
Both have men hyping their woman 150%.
Except when you look at their history, they were most definitely jocks who peaked in high school.
And they have spent decades trying to get that popularity back.
...I currently hate you.

And I was just

You could have run that ad in the 90s and MAYBE not pissed off half your audience.
But NOW?
They need to be taught the environmental harms of AI.
(Oh, we teach them media literacy.)

I am VERY close to asking for her to be kicked out.
Like, ma'am, you tried. Every argument you had was either specious, or arguing for the very things we're against.
Myself and other parents:
But we WANT our children to be able to write well, WITHOUT ASSISTANCE.
(It'll save them time!)
There is NO evidence that kids who don't learn tech are "behind their peers".
(But they will be!)
There is NO evidence AI will be a part of the job landscape.
(Oh, it will!)
I'm in a chat group of local parents focused on reducing tech use in elementary school.
Someone joined today. Said she was in EdTech. Offered herself up for questions.
...So, we pounced.
I asked about AI.
She said, "oh, wait 'til 8."
And then listed all the bullshit reasons to use AI.
iβm tired of every paper (even critical ones) on societal impact of AI starting by both-siding the βbenefitsβ and risks/harms of AI
in academia, i would like us to arrive at a collective reckoning that we donβt need to play both sides. it's totally legit to clearly state just the harms. period
Oh, fire every last one of them.
Hell, a lot of THEM should be put on trial.
Plus, they clean the air...
Everyone deserves trees.
Efficient homes, SHADE, reflective roofs, landscaping, batteries, heat pumps, solar panels, fans, reflective window treatments, AND SO ON.
So many of these things are simple, and cost-effective.
The stats on the temps of a tree-lined street vs. not are *insane*. And save lives.
re: hockey, Muhammad Ali, one of the greatest boxers ever to live, gave up three years in the prime of his life β years in which his fighting would have been at peak; actual money incalculable β rather than fight in an unjust war, so noping out on grandpaβs burger bash should be an easy choice

Ditto. I have a little German, but it's not only too late at night for me to remember it, it's also a *very little* German.
It didn't really get hard until about halfway through 1500.
Being a Shakespeare nerd helps a LOT.
