I’m an NSF panel reviewer that was scheduled to meet today. Just got notice that all NSF panels were canceled today. I reviewed some innovative proposals in support of students. Devastating if these scholars don’t get to do this work. For the love of science & students I hope this is just a delay.💔

Who’s quitting academia? Data reveal gender gaps in surprising fields Even in scientific areas in which women are well represented, they are up to 40% more likely than men to leave research within 20 years.

Sadly this is not shocking. “Among nearly 35,000 biological scientists who authored their first paper in 2000, women were more likely than men to have stopped publishing after 5, 10 or 20 years. The size of this gender gap varies between disciplines.” www.nature.com/articles/d41...

Today at #PAG32 we are learning from @jeanmichelane.bsky.social about atmospheric nitrogen fixation in corn aerial roots. Even some #Sorghum aerial roots have bacteria that can fixate nitrogen!!

🚨After 3 intense days reviewing 229 applications to the lab, only 20 candidates will be contacted for the next steps. This inspired me to create a short guide & podcast episode to help students in applying to grad school.
