Alternative OSs are dependent on device models, one distro may have your model, another may not.
So do your research there before you dive into the wires & guts of switching.
The other rewarding part of this is reviving old phones, extending their life way past what the makers were willing to do.
I managed to install LineageOS on an old Pixel 1, & it works!
Only Graphene is 100% Google free, but it's a damn sight better than letting them having full access to everything.
