*The estate of John Hendrickson, who passed away last year, is in the process of selling Whitney Park.

Of the 200 largest lakes in the Adirondacks: 114 are open for motorboating, 55 are private with no public access, and 31 are motor-free. 12 of the 31 motor-free lakes are inaccessible and involve a lengthy hike carrying one’s boat leaving only 19 motor free lakes accessible to the public

This study is required under the Adirondack Park State Land Master Plan and the 2019 Saranac Lakes Wild Forest Unit Management Plan (SLWF). The SLWF includes several constitutionally protected Forest Preserve waterbodies, such as Upper, Middle and Lower Saranac Lakes, Second Pond and Weller Pond.

When the State Budget is released we hope that it contains the needed land acquisition provisions that Governor Kathy Hochul proposed. These provisions will help to streamline the land acquisition process by updating antiquated & cumbersome processed used for land & conservation easement purchases.
