People who were dogpiling her without knowing her or her stance on AI were out of line.

My opinion is that that anger should be saved for the giant corpos, not individuals we might disagree with.

I agree, but it's also different when the "pro AI" sentiment is coming from a person vs a giant multibillion dollar corporation.

I think normal people deserve some grace.

Even if this woman were SUPER pro-AI, she doesn't have the power to strengthen this technology's grasp.

If giant corporations aren't shoving AI in our faces, they're probably investigating its use behind the scenes as a cost-saving (see: replacing people) measure.

It's extremely tiring and frustrating and it makes us all a little batty.

She HAS expressed interest in having her likeness scanned after her death in the past. I don't know if that reflects her CURRENT stance as that was from a 3-year-old article and people can change their minds.

No. I'm asking you to question whether or not you understand what's happening. I'm saying your eyes and ears might not be perceiving all of the information. And that without that information, you're forming an uninformed opinion.

None of this is an attack on your character as a human being.

Somebody being "content" about this is an assumption about somebody that you don't know.

Who knows. Maybe you're right!

Maybe there really IS somebody on union staff who doesn't like her.

My point is that it's not fair to make that assumption and doing so isn't some sort of an act of goodness.

I don't know. I don't know who makes those decisions either. And that's why I'm not accusing them of something malicious. Because I don't know them. I don't know what the process is by which these decisions are made.

My point is, I'm willing to acknowledge my lack of knowledge.

Name the union staff member who did this. Show me that you really know who they are and can attest to what kind of person they are and what their motivation was.

You are attributing malice to a person when they might have just done something dumb.

I'd bet good money on, "NO."

This was probably some over-worked, underpaid member of union staff, who thought, "Oh, look. A prominent member of the union talking about the work being done on AI. Great. Let's slap a subtitle overlay on this and post it. We've got a million other things to take care of today."

Like.... guys.... you wanna know what this LIKELY was? Not an evil, malicious actor's union that hates *checks notes* actors.

A calculated effort to harm a former elected leader who's been volunteering her time and effort behind the scenes?

I doubt it.

So NOW, it's things like this (paraphrased to protect identities):

SAG-AFTRA wanted to make it look like she endorses AI!

SAG AFTRA hates and openly disrespects its own members.

I'm mad. That was intentional, taking her words out of context like that.

As it turned out, a different video surfaced, from the same event, in which she spoke openly about her negative experience having her voice cloned by AI and expressed the importance of guardrails around the technology.

She is clearly NOT pro-AI.

For context, SAG-AFTRA shared this video of Sheryl Lee Ralph, a former vice-president of the LA branch of the union.

People erroneously jumped to the conclusion that she was pushing a pro-AI agenda.

Oh, make no mistake, there are definitely malicious people out there. For sure.

Most of the worst and cruelest decisions made by leaders in the world don't come from malice; they come from an unflappable belief in themselves that whatever they're doing is the right thing and fully justifiable.

When it comes to politics, you have to vote for somebody to participate in our system. Nobody's ever going to really know the politicians they vote for on a personal level, so we can only judge them by their actions or lack thereof.

You want to know what you should do? You should probably ask yourself, "Hey... do I actually know this person? Like 'KNOW them' know them?" And if the answer is "no," don't leap to the conclusion that they're an evil person hiding behind false stupidity.

People need to learn about Hanlon's Razor:

"Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity."

What it means is, "Don't assume someone's evil. They're likely just being dumb or ignorant or just making a simple mistake."

People are rarely as cruel as we assume them to be.
