At today’s NYC Council Stated meeting, we passed two crucial bills that protect gig workers—-both Deliveristas and Uber & Lyft drivers. Although these workers are often full time, apps use “gig” status to get around our basic labor protections.

Rallied with @nytwa.bsky.social and @workersjusticep.bsky.social to pass two essential bills protecting Uber & Lyft drivers and deliveristas from unjust firing and arbitrary app deactivations. Our city’s immigrant workers deserve dignity and the same labor protections afforded to all New Yorkers.

The @nyslabor.bsky.social $3M penalty against Indian Spice owner Mariam Khandakar is a tremendous victory—but it has yet to be paid. The workers still have not seen a cent of the hundreds of thousands in wages stolen from them. We will not stop fighting until they get real justice.
