Today my friend’s four year old commandeered her phone and FaceTimed me, primarily while hiding from her siblings in a closet. I was asked who sleeps in the bed in my office, where my husband sleeps, if I live in Canada, why wasn’t it snowing at my house and why do my cats wear collars.

“Put on your glasses and get out your phone and text your older son back about the Eagles.” -Me, an eldest daughter.

Two cats are warming themselves in front of a gas fireplace, glaring at the camera, daring me to try to turn it off. One is sleek and solid black, the other is a chunky brown tabby.

Reader, I did not turn their fireplace off.

It really is something to wake up and check the news about last night’s mass shooting and find it overshadowed by a more recent mass shooting.

Heartbreaking and horrifying to go to bed reading about the mass shooting at Brown University and wake up to read about the mass shooting at a Hanukkah celebration at Bondi Beach. Thinking of the victims, their loved ones, and those affected by the hate that drove these attacks.

A one story ranch style house has all its lights on at night. In front of the house, on either side of the front walkway are two inflatable brontosaurus style dinosaurs. One is pink and one is green. They are both wearing festive Santa hats. They are are about 13 feet high, but the angle of the photo makes them appear taller than the house.

A few years ago, I conspired with my brothers to buy my parents a green inflatable dinosaur for their yard. Last week I found a similar pink dinosaur and sent it to my youngest brother who snuck over to their house and set it up last night as a surprise.
