there's a very "thank god white ppl are making these games so i can like them" energy among a lot of the game's fans that isn't the devs' fault but is reeeeaally gross

Like yeah, the Oscars suck, who cares! But also, Emilia Pérez getting in matters. People will go watch that hogshit and think it represents trans art or offers some insight into Mexican culture. I do think it's kind of fine to care a little and advocate for a better representation of the medium!

Two things can be true: 1.) The Game Awards are meaningless and we shouldn't take them all that seriously. 2.) Award shows of its scale DO rewrite the mainstream history of the art form, whether they deserve to or not, and its okay to care that it's so thoughtless despite having that responsibility.

(that said, apparently they have scheduled profit-sharing, so do check out the game to support this team, despite all the crap)

This is such a special game (see the review I just put up about it), and it's a travesty that the team has been gutted like this. I hate what a common story this has become in this industry.
