Ignoring today’s deadline for congressional approval of the ongoing strikes against Venezuela, required under the 1973 War Powers Act ...saying no approval is necessary since, in its formulation, U.S. military personnel are not at risk in the strikes that have, so far, killed 65 people.

When the Republicans shredded the nation’s social safety net in their budget reconciliation bill of July, the one they call the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act,” they timed most of the cuts to take effect after the 2026 midterm elections.

Aaron Rupar of Public Notice, who is very well informed about the news indeed, suggested today that journalists should consider asking Johnson: “Do you ever read the news, and do you agree it’s problematic for the Speaker to be so woefully uninformed?”

DHS has used the Statute of Liberty's likeness in at least 16 ICE recruiting posters it posted to its X account in the last two months.

Lady Liberty had been "permanently stamped" as "the role of unofficial greeter of incoming immigrants."

DHS is clearly seeking to change that perception.

But it raises a much darker question:

What would Trump have done on Jan. 6, 2021 if he had possessed then the kind of control over local law enforcement that he seeks to acquire today?

I'm starting to believe that Trump is creating an atmosphere in Washington, D.C., in which he is surrounded by military, so that when he takes his further actions to destroy democracy and we Democrats go there to protest, he will be able to do whatever he wants to the protesters.

Could it be that the Republicans think that..".democracy itself must be destroyed to create permanent Republican rule in order to make sure the government cannot be used for the government programs Americans want."
