ICE is just driving around my neighborhood today kidnapping landscapers and other workers (one at the corner where my kid is in preschool) – this is so, so fucked up

So engrossed in the beauty of the lakefront trail on a day like this that I totally missed the turn to the nature museum. (My three-year-old was less entranced)

A few months ago, I pointed out that part of the reason for ICE employees covering their faces, was that some of them were likely government contractors and not law enforcement, and so has no legal authority to detain.

People that know nothing about criminal justice reform yelled at me.🤷🏿‍♂️

As inspired as I am by the way my neighbors have been stepping up in AP, hearing that people in the incredibly normie suburb I grew up in chased out the Feds honestly gives me more hope that we’ll ultimately win this fight

He is calling for a general strike and the crowd is going crazy

Well, the sheer number of people marching out of the Unity Park family protest sendoff tied up traffic at Diversey/Milwaukee/kimball six corners for a solid 25 minutes at least, so I’m guessing the downtown one is going to be absolutely massive

Yeah totally, this is definitely a “yes and” – and it’s really about all of these videos, not just this instance

Yeah my concern is that people are centering the response over the people being seriously harmed in these videos. Not to diminish the community stepping up, but it feels like a very white people thing to be all “Heartwarming! These neighbors nearly prevented this brown person from being abducted!”

After thinking about this for a bit, it’s making me really uneasy seeing this incident being used as a sort of resistance porn. like, this was not a win – people were acting like this because they actually had one of my neighbors in the car and they were successful in abducting them this time

I’m pretty sure this one was a smoke bomb, not tear gas but thank you

This is a block away from us. L went to check it out but they’d already run away and but I’m hearing they tried to detain someone else further down our street not long after this

Thinking a lot about how we’re seeing public safety without cops in action on our streets, right now

And by stressful I mean this was only one of the incidents today within a mile of my kid’s school bsky.app/profile/roya...

Spouse went to get kiddo & friend’s kiddo early today given reports of ICE nabbing folks by nearby schools and ppl had come out in force to cover the area. Honestly turned a stressful situation into a heartening one for us (with all the caveats about our positionality of course). ILU Chicago ❤️
