After sleeping on it, I am now less angry and critical of the Dems who voted yes.

Why?

Because they know the GOP is not going to vote to continue ACA benefits. Not now, not ever.

So they didn't give up anything they were maybe somehow going to get.

I'm mad about the shut down and worried about healthcare, but not letting people starve is a pretty good reason to cave on this bureaucratic fight, the more I think about it. So just say that: Republicans wanted you to starve rather than compromise, so we let this one go.

If nothing else, you can demonstrate that the way the teacher is using AI is flawed, since the AI is not using the rubric the teacher described to the students! But I am also familiar with the "circle the wagons" mentality in the school district setting, so he just may not care.

The books removed include not only To Kill a Mockingbird, but also The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, an American Slave, The House on Mango Street, Roll of Thunder, Hear my Cry, and James Baldwin’s The Fire Next Time. The reason? Senate Bill 12, the “parental rights,” anti-DEI, anti-LGBTQ monster bill that also bans GSA clubs and forbids teachers from using trans or non-binary students’ pronouns or preferred names. According to two district sources, AI was used to measure instructional texts against a rubric that took into account “DEI content.”1 The books must be removed from all classrooms, and cannot be used as instructional resources—either as texts read in class or as choice books in classroom libraries. Though the books have received no formal challenge, they are currently awaiting further review.

Look, it's bad enough that a local school district (in TX) is requiring libraries & teachers to pull TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD to ensure compliance with SB12, but it's even worse that the list of pulled books was generated by an *AI analysis* that seems to have flagged any book with any mention of race.
