My first job was working in a computer store/repair shop.

The "fun" thing i've learned about today about this mess is the whole "AI annotators" thing.

So yeah, there's apparently often in fact an underpaid person behind the "AI" presentation anyway.

It really is getting to that point, and i sometimes worry it's also part of some's exit strategy for the bubble.

Yeah, that's never fun.

I'm kinda 'cheating' myself because a lot of that stuff is things i should probably have messed with a long time ago, but was just held back by the impression of it being far more complicated than it is.

Also, i remember Lowe's trying to get us to implement that, then the mall nuking that idea by saying that if we are going to sell food, we'll have to follow the same rules as the food places in the food court.

If things don't stay as they are tho, then a lot of options potentially open up!

If things stay as they are, bringing other species to human-like levels would probably be problematic.

But bringing them to a point where they can more easily understand basic signage and the concept of machines and roads, and basic mechanisms could make coexisting easier for sure.

I find it silly how many things seem like a huge step until actually attempted, then it's...

Why not both? I mean, it should be pretty similar tech for one or the other.

And also, to some extent, it'd be a good idea to do both to keep a massive gap in world-compatibility from being created.

So, turns out, the trick to make the Galaxy XR properly work with tongue tracking is to add the necessary lines in the VRCFT VirtualDesktop DLL.

And poking in there, i'm seeing a lot of stuff being math'd together for face tracking values.

Do i really want to start messing with this? I'm tempted!

Why are things this stupid!

You can make it behave if it's your own PC. Local account + ExplorerPatcher + Open-Shell + a few other tools can make it usable in a sane way.

But if it's a locked down corporate machine, then yeah...

I got a funny mental image of that starting to happen, then just going "Nah." and closing the laptop.

It feels like so many things aren't even trying anymore...

How old of a laptop is it?

As long as the thing supports IDE, that's pretty much the best option!

Samsung Galaxy XR video thing!

Figured i'd try making some kind of video about it, since there hasn't been much that talks about getting it setup and into VRChat!

Too much about using the AI crap and "It's like a Vision Pro!".

The short version:

It's the Quest Pro 2, except Samsung built it.

They have no idea how to sell it, just like Meta with the Quest Pro.

But it's actually pretty great! I just wish i could have the controllers for it.

Got it unboxed and setup with Virtual Desktop in less than an hour, spent about 2-3h in a VRChat meet. Face and eye tracking works!

Hardware is pretty great! Software needs some work, but it’s a barely released device. Quest 3 had issues on release too after all.

Taking a chance…

As "planned", things did not go according to plan, and i'm stuck in Houston until at least Tuesday, or whenever UPS decides to deliver what we need.

So yeah, free weekend!

Got that Samsung Galaxy XR demo tomorrow, but aside from that, if anyone wants to hang out or anything...

Yeah, that’s a really annoying thing, and some jobs with better pay come with higher costs that makes them not worth it.
