One way to support science in Ukraine is to STAY ENGAGED with Ukrainian researchers.
A recent AGU talk showed the impact of anthropogenic energy release (explosions over Eastern Europe) on the upper atmosphere. The talk was interesting, highlighted the war at AGU, and engaged Ukrainian scientists.

Lunar eclipse tomorrow!๐๐๐
Reminder: In a lunar eclipse the Sun, Earth, and Moon line up just right for the Earth's shadow to fall on the moon
Looking forward to seeing this cutie during my commute (so far it has been the only perk to teaching a class at 8:30am๐ซฉ)

There was an interesting NYT article that touched on the effect of green house gases on the thermosphere-The part of the upper atmosphere that is hot b/c it is bad at losing heat (it is also where most spacecraft orbit)

Promotional >6ft Orbitz for "Nirvanna the band the show the movie"
Hiding behind the Orbitz logo
You know what WAS a good thing to watch tonight? "Nirvanna the band the show the movie". It was weird and fun slice of Canadiana.
Also learned tonight that Orbitz were not sold internationally...a shame, really.

Norwayโs Century-Long Watch on the Northern Lights
In science news, here is a lovely NYT article about Norway's achievements in space science๐กTwo years ago I had the absolute pleasure visiting EISCAT (European Incoherent Scatter Scientific Association) facilities in Tromso and Skibotn, and they were each inspirational

Comic. My experience seeing the Northern Lights: [Graph: x axis is increasing time, y axis is increasing aurora coolness, going from visible glow on the horizon, color only visible in photos -> sheets and pillars of light, colors faintly visible -> โoh wow, itโs getting really bright now.โ -> spectacular ribbons of color spanning the sky and illuminating the landscape. Graph shows dips and peaks over many hours with the topmost peeks for only around 5 or 10 minutes.] [caption] Aurora tip: If you get good views of the aurora, keep watching the sky; you might suddenly get great ones.
