19 hours door to door, from home, to Mankato for a few waterfalls, over to Sioux Falls (not pictured) to Pipestone National Monument & back toward home with a stop at Lake Koronis near Paynesville for the northern lights I'd been watching since the sun went down & back.

This might have been my favorite day of photography I've ever had. I've been chasing this feeling ever since. One of those days where almost everything just seemed to work out.

In the end, it's just a glimpse of what's to come. We all know it's not really over. An illusion, like standing pools of water atop the ice reflecting the sunset.

Here in MInnesota we generally get at least a few "false spring" occurances before the ice retreats & real spring arrives. The temps get up into the 40's & 50's, bicycles & motorcycles come out, the streets begin coming to life with people again. It feels good, like hope.

There is a beautiful world out there.
On the other side of all of this chaos can be a kinder, gentler, sustainable, more colorful world. I would much prefer to train my eyes on what that can look like. However, we cannot diminish the darkness & its effect on the world around us.

Minnesota and the ICE situation:

WHHYYY are so many people believing the folks who ALWAYS LIE just because they said the one thing that we want to hear?

ICE was all over our city yesterday - harder than before.

We NEED to know how many permanent ICE positions they've added in MN. 1/2

This is good. Very much need this kind of talk.

I'll believe it when I see it, but it sounds like ICE OUT is coming soon.

Here's today's timeline cleanser & reminder of the world we are working for.

After shooting sunrise the other day, the light was still pretty good so I went back down to the lake to see the ice being forced to retreat. I didn't feel much of a breeze, but it was persistant and steady. when It met the shoreline, it broke up and crumbled. Left to melt away in the spring sun.

Got a little much needed time with the hiking boots and camera this weekend up on the North Shore of Lake Superior. I gotta remember to do that more often. Not necessarily for the photos, but for the soul.

Heard something about a superb owl today?

I have to bend over to strap in, If I sit down I can’t reach!

I know my limits and don’t push them too much. As my son gets better than me, he’s gonna have to find someone else to teach him!

I quit when I was in my 30’s but when my son started showing interest, it was the perfect time to pick it back up again. I haven’t had so much fun in my life as I do with him now.

As a 47 year old snowboarder, I appreciate this.

Here's hoping that I haven't missed the all of the best Lake Superior winter conditions already. The forecast doesn't really look promising, but I really need to get up there again soon.

A good telephoto lens sure helps zoom in on that beautiful light!
