The BBC & BAFTAs failed Davidson, Lindo, Jordan and the Tourette’s community, and it’s looking increasingly like they did so *on purpose.*

Editing on a tight deadline can involve things getting missed, so extra care had to be taken that if any of Davidson’s verbal tics *were* missed, they were not decontextualized for the audience watching at home and abroad.

Davidson absolutely should have been at the ceremony. Every effort should have been made to ensure the context of his tics — which is part of the point of “I Swear” — was provided so people understood he couldn’t control them. And that context should not have been removed from the aired broadcast.

I often try to err on the side of giving the benefit of the doubt and not immediately assuming malice when something gets fucked up, but not here, and not with the BBC’s track record of other questionable editorial choices. The BAFTAs also have a lot to answer for, too.

The fact that Davidson’s outbursts were included in the aired broadcast despite a 2-hour delay between the recording and the broadcast always struck me as deliberate, but that the BAFTA producers put a mic in front of him, when he was 40 rows back, and then the BBC left all that in is flat-out evil.

It couldn't be more clear that this was a premeditated act by the BBC, intended to cause the maximum possible harm to both Black people and disabled people.

Burn that organisation to the fucking ground.
