Nintendo Virtual Boy at 1 Million Frames per second - The Slow Mo Guys
As the guy who wrote the chapter on how the Virtual Boy display works in our Seeing Red book, I gotta say that is an excellent, highly-accurate video demonstration of the techniques in slow motion! @jzagal.bsky.social

Cover picture for MetaQuest and Playstation VR2 game called Hotel Infinity. Picture is signed with a written message saying "Go Utes!" and "Mean Green!"
Heard of Hotel California? Didn't think so. I'm sure you've heard of "Hotel Infinity" - a non-euclidean VR hotel exploration game. I think you can leave after entering? Congrats to C Haltinner for another feather in his game dev cap! (is that bulb in his VR headset?) @utah.edu games alumni ftw. :-)

Why Keeping Score Isn’t Fun Anymore
Never, in a million kabillion years, when I decided to say "screw it" to mainstream philosophy and started writing about the philosophy of games, could I have imagined that this road would take me down to having the goddamn NY Times profile me and my new book.

Perhaps that’s what happens when they realize they can make more from the add than the book sales?

"Enterprise software" as a category (of which Canvas is but one example) is always going to have the same problems (all of which plague Canvas). At least this is what I've seen in my limited experience with "enterprise software"....

I'm not. I'm agreeing with you that it sucks and barely does what I need it to do (which is different from what you want it to do, if I understood correctly).

I continue to wait for someone to waltz in and say "wait, you need to install SuperAttendance++ canvas plugin which, after you've learned it, but trust me, it's not that complicated, will do that super basic thing it does not do now".

For some definitions of attendance? On canvas it's easy to check if student was marked present/late/absent for class on a particular date. For other stuff I export a report - csv - that I then apply mid-tier Excel-fu (sort, count cells with "absent", etc.), all to know that J. Doe missed 3 classes.

Oh, you want students to "check in" to class - and the system tallies everythingand you can see who was/n't there. I thought you wanted a system for taking attendance... (the one on canvas sucks anyways - it's a for me to answer a simple question like "did studentX miss more than 3 days?"

That might be a "local install" problem? My experience with Canvas at the University of Utah is that it DOES have an attendance system built it. It's not a separate plugin/app I install in canvas..it's just....there.

Mr. Iragashi [sic], Director, Castlevania: Symphony Of The Night. He told us that Super Metroid was a big influence on his design. — Game Informer #55 (Nov 1997)
"[Super Metroid] is a great game that had a lot of influence over Symphony," Igarashi tells us. — EGM #155 (Jun 2002)
"Since there hadn't been a Metroid for quite some time, we thought, why not try to make a better version of Metroid, but in the world of Castlevania?" — Koji Igarashi, EGM #200 (Feb 2006)
Benj @benjedwards.com also pointed out the article where Iga mentions Super Metroid as an influence (and Ethan @playhistory.bsky.social found one of the other mentions). Next time someone tries to tell you SOTN contained no Metroid influence, here's a handy little image to refute that, lol.
