Members of our PIPS 4 Profit team represented TIA and provided updates on their projects during the Apple and Pear Australia Limited Technical Symposium. 🍎🍏
What a night! We hosted an exploration of food and science at a dinner in Launceston last week. It was part of agriCULTURED and linked agricultural science themes with specially prepared dishes in an effort to get people thinking about the science behind their plate. 👍

We’ve been involved in a project to help farmers grow the productivity of Tasmania’s red meat sector through the selection and establishment of perennial legumes.

A rehabilitation of the orchard is underway.

Congrats to former TIA Masters student Uchitha Bashini Godahenage (Bhashi), who recently received the Young Grower of the Year Award at the Tasmanian Fruit Industry Awards. 👏
Bhashi moved from Sri Lanka to study a Master of Applied Science and now manages Costa’s Tasmanian blackberry operations.

Our entomologists are advising berry growers in the state to be aware of an emerging pest, the Bronze Leaf Beetle.
Bronze Leaf Beetles chew on leaves, flowers and fruits, causing poor quality and reduced yields.

A project aimed at improving soil health has received funding from the Federal Government.
TIA soil scientist Dr Bianca Das is the lead researcher for the project that will use organic products including food organics and garden organics composts to benefit soil health.

We’re continuing important research into how the process of making sparkling wine may help mitigate the impacts of smoke taint. 🥂🍾
