A US friend of mine just gave birth prematurely. Her daughter will spend months in NICU to finish her development. Because both parents are self-employed, they have had to set up a Go Fund Me to help cover an estimated $20k in expenses above what they planned for.
The U.S. system is fubarred!

After moving back to Canada, it took two years to work past my fears and trauma caused by the US medical system. Now I’m at a place where I can be proactive about my health - simply because I know I can get the care I need.

If I still lived in the US? I’d be rationing my care based on $$$.

Had a 1 hour eco cardiograph today as a precaution. Top of the line equipment and experienced staff at local regional hospital. Cost to me? $0.

How? I live in Canada.

Canada universal health care? Friday I had my yearly checkup with my ophthalmologist. Had vision scans, including dilation, to confirm eyes were in good shape. Joyful, knowing I owed $0. When I lived in the US? I would not get this care due to $$$.

Unfortunately it is no longer safe to travel back to the US. I’m a Green Card holder. Plus Canadians are being stopped at the border and being grilled about what they think of Trump, and having their phone searched. Some have been refused entry and banned from entering the US for two years.

I’m posting from Vancouver, Canada. But I lived in the US for 40 years (including Trump 1.0) and my two sons live in the US. So I’m paying close attention to what is happening and how the far right influences are impacting Canada.

Trump is no longer “Leader of the Free World”

Life has an ebb and flow, give and take, push and pull, movement and rest. Stepping away to take a breath and break from the chaos, especially through social media, is important for me. It allows me to process my emotions and find my strength and feet again and move forward with intention.

I witnessed Canadian’s willingness to help each other tonight. After a serious accident at a busy 2- lane road intersection, folks organized and helped direct traffic around the accident and cared for the injured before emergency services arrived. No honking, no rudeness, just kindness.

As a minimalist and allergic to lots of scents, I use sound to bless, cleanse and ground. This also suits me as music is a large part of my life!
