Street View: Sundays Are For Open Streets In the early 1970s, bike activists in BogotΓ‘, Colombia convinced their city leaders to close two major thoroughfares to car traffic, giving the space to people riding bikes and walking for one day. Th...

Portland’s Sunday Parkways open streets program was inspired by similar events in Latin America. But the program is much more limited than the initiatives it was modeled after. @taylorgriggs.bsky.social argues that’s a shame, considering its potential to shift the paradigm.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Governor Polis Orders Flags to Half-Staff to Honor the Anniversary of September 11th and the Passing of Charlie Kirk

Someone shot up my kid's school today, and our governor is paying tribute to a guy who thought that is an acceptable price to pay for having the Second Amendment.

Jared Polis has failed Colorado.

Faster permitting, zoning changes needed to speed new home building in Salem, speaker says - Salem Reporter Salem does well compared to many Oregon cities in making housing easier to build, according to Michael Andersen of the Sightline Institute in a Monday presentation to the Salem Area Chamber of Commerc...

POV: it is 2021, your city hasn't kept up with demand, & median rent went up $200/year

β€œCan you imagine if the median property owner’s property taxes went up by $2,400 a year? Can you imagine the scale of freakout that would be involved?” Andersen said.

Nothing but a blood thirsty middle man that profits off marketing apartments to investors on the premise of how high and how quickly they can jack their rents up.

This reeks of self preservation. Of course a multifamily brokerage is not in support of public/social housing. It almost certainly will not trade on the market in these brokers lifetimes, if ever. They’re just hunting for their next commission.

Agreed! Hopefully local owners can snatch them up at a discount and actually get them leased.

Why is the rent so damn high in LA? Simple economics: the demand for housing is extremely high and our housing supply is extremely low.

Oh yes, it will be very popular to implement a sales tax on consumers (who are, according to these people, already overtaxed) instead of multibillion dollar businesses. What a joke.

If PPB & the Mayor want to get more eyes on the street at the I405 underpasses, they should work with ODOT to transfer the land to PPR and build a skate park/pump track/pickleball and tennis courts and shit, maybe even a food cart pod. We have the SDCs, and rent from the pod could go to maintenance.

The explicit goal is to increase the share. Good, safe, protected infrastructure facilitates that. Period.

501-1000 daily riders on almost the entirety of Broadway in SW in 2024 with 2001-3000 crossing the Broadway bridge daily. The city has β€œcommitted” to it’s mode share goals. Removing successful bike infrastructure won’t increase that share. It will make bike infrastructure less safe.

Even if β€œluxury” market-rate condos get built, that’s still a million times better than the Luxury Single family homes that will undoubtedly get built if zoning isn’t changed.

HAPO will work with cities to create affordable housing strategies that help them meet their goals and would be successful in their geography.

Portland also has IZ. A one-size-fits-all statewide IZ probably wouldn’t work well. Cities can and should incentivize more affordability and OHNA requires cities meet their share affordable Housing production goals with the new statewide Housing Accountability and Production Office.
