In Bryan's defense, we don't have any widely shared folklore or cultural teachings about the folly of trying to cheat death. I'm pretty sure things always work out well for people who think they can live forever.

Top 10 album for me. The A side of "Harborcoat," "7 Chinese Bros.," "So. Central Rain," "Pretty Persuasion," and "Time After Time" is insane.

It has been oddly cathartic to see @pablo.show do all of this to a bunch of guys who probably thought that the modern fourth estate, in its weakened condition, would never touch them.

I regret to inform the internet that the KPop Demon Hunters songs are stuck in my head. "You're my soda pop, my little soda pop," things of that nature. I don't mind it, but it might kill me.

I see this as a design problem rather than an inherent golf problem. Golf courses can and should be designed to accommodate bike/pedestrian traffic through and around. There's also an important distinction to be made between private and municipal courses. We're talking about the latter here.

Oh yeah, I got where you were coming from. You just happened to hit a hobbyhorse of mine. πŸ˜‚ These attitudes among well-meaning lefties are a big problem for urban municipal golf right now. It's a tough scene because golf courses are absolutely some of the last remaining vigorous "third spaces."

Also, after watching the Portland city council raid the self-sustaining golf enterprise fund in order to cover shortfalls elsewhere in the city budget earlier this year, I'm no longer going to countenance the financial arguments against municipal golf, either.

The environmental and land use arguments against public golf are often deeply unserious. It's one of those areas where I find myself very much at odds with people I agree with on almost everything else.

Mid Pines Golf Club Course Review and Rating Donald Ross’s use of the land is the primary source of Mid Pines Golf Club's challenge: in order to score well, players must hit precise approaches from all manner of uneven lies.

I used this profile of the great Mid Pines Golf Club as an opportunity to talk about elegance in designβ€”potentially a declining art. www.thefriedegg.com/courses/mid-...

I guess there's some ambiguity around WBYC's provenance, but I've always regarded it as primarily a Ross course.

That said, I think I get what you're driving at with "Belvedere/WBYC vibes" β€” old-school, modest design on good land β€”Β but not entirely sure.

Which vibes are you talking about? Cool courses, but pretty different (aside from the shared William Watson heritage, no longer really in evidence at WBYC)

Olde Salem Greens Golf Course Review and Rating Fried Egg Golf course review and rating of Olde Salem Greens Golf Course in Salem, Massachusetts.

Early in the Great Depression, the city of Salem funded the construction of municipal golf course as a form of unemployment relief. Today, Olde Salem Greens is one of my favorite nines in the country. And it could be even better.
