Today marks the anniversary of Japanese American incarceration during World War II. Methodist pastor Shigeo Shimada offered these words to his congregation before they were sent to incarceration camps:

I hit my head and my baby immediately turned to me and says, “Pray?”

I love that she thought to pray as a response to me expressing pain. ❤️

Diversity isn’t hard if you don’t care.

Privilege is the ability to look away at injustice because you aren’t personally impacted by it.

2) Companies will lean into price gouging because they can just blame the tariffs, whether they are being charged these tariffs or not.

Guess who they pass along these charges to? If you guessed the consumer - or us - then you guessed right!

We are going to enter into a recession.

We are going to find prices increasing for 2 reasons that emerge from these tariffs:

1) Tariffs are imposed at the port of entry, not departure. This means that the people who are paying the tariffs are usually the ones importing goods into the U.S. - which are often U.S. based and owned companies.

Most people who are up in arms about undocumented immigrants have never actually engaged with them.

It’s wild to think that the files regarding the assassinations of John F. Kennedy, Martin Luther King Jr., and Robert Kennedy Sr. are going to be declassified.

What will we learn? Will we learn anything new?

You don’t always need eyes to see.

Being led in worship by someone who is physically blind, but who has profound spiritually sight has been a blessing.

I think more appropriate is a church that is willing to challenge all political parties.
This way I get in trouble with everyone.

This is a problem because it leaves pastors saying almost nothing at all when it comes to matters of social and political importance. Partisan politics effectively silences pastors from speaking on issues from a Biblical and theological perspective because the issues are deemed too political.

The danger of a church that attempts to be politically neutral and a church for all political persuasions is that it often doesn’t engage in anything that is perceived as politically contentious.

I broke down in tears today singing “Christ alone, cornerstone. Weak made strong in the savior’s love. Through the storm, he is Lord, Lord of all.”

Something about knowing God is a strong cornerstone that can hold the weight of the world wrecked me today.

I have zero motivation for social media, but know I need to be online…

Yes… I feel that way too.

This is an important fact.

In Orange County, CA, there were around 400 Korean American churches before Covid.

After Covid, there are around 250.

That’s a massive drop, which adds to my concerns that around 1/3 of Asian American churches closed during the pandemic throughout the nation.
