Loops are amazing. Being able to turn down the world has done wonders for my mental state in public.

Last year I decided to put my health first and take an extended break from paid illustration. I found I had an inexplicable compulsion to document all the birds I can see from my house in the most time consuming way possible.

Some predators:

BARAD DÛR

So there's a book called Warchild by Karin Lowachee that plays with tense to show passage of time. It starts out in second-person past, moves to first-person past, then to first-person present. It's really cool structure. (Massive content warnings for child soldiers and several kinds of abuse, tho.)

One time I found out one of my cats had gotten into the studio WHEN SHE LANDED IN MY PALETTE. 😱 (Thankfully it was non-toxic kid's acrylic that day, but hoo boy, that could have been bad.)

Decided to put a bit of focus on my #landscape #art and concentrating on using just big brushes on a small canvas to stop me getting fussy.

I have a long road to get to where I’d be happy with these - all the more reason to paint!!

So the thing that FINALLY worked for me (FOR. ME.) was a dot-grid Rocketbook that I customized to have week-at-a-glance, a full calender year, and copious space forlists and notes. Being able to scan and email pages, but then wipe and re-use them? Perfect.

(NGL, I kinda only want supports designed by other neurodivergent people at this point. Research is important and all, but lived experience makes such a difference.)
