Loops are amazing. Being able to turn down the world has done wonders for my mental state in public.

Last year I decided to put my health first and take an extended break from paid illustration. I found I had an inexplicable compulsion to document all the birds I can see from my house in the most time consuming way possible.

Some predators:

BARAD DÛR

So there's a book called Warchild by Karin Lowachee that plays with tense to show passage of time. It starts out in second-person past, moves to first-person past, then to first-person present. It's really cool structure. (Massive content warnings for child soldiers and several kinds of abuse, tho.)

One time I found out one of my cats had gotten into the studio WHEN SHE LANDED IN MY PALETTE. 😱 (Thankfully it was non-toxic kid's acrylic that day, but hoo boy, that could have been bad.)
