How College Financial Troubles Could Reshape the Student Experience

An important take as it examines the effects of cuts on the student experience, ostensibly why our whole industry exists. But as I explain in “Requiem for a College,” the “era of austerity” was impending long before anything started rolling out of the White House.

AI. Executive orders. Enrollment cliff. High student debt. All of these are bearing down on #highered. How financially secure is your college? Reading what happened to me and others may help you find out.

This is actually fairly accurate.

My dad told me a story about having a drink with Mr Lovell at some local dive bar when this sequence was being filmed for The Man who Fell to Earth back in the 1970's.
My dad said Mr. Lovell had a lot to say about space and what he saw there...
I'll leave it at that.
Rest in peace, spaceman.

There’s such spirit in this series.
“I want to do a Superman series.”
“Yeah, we got like ten bucks.”

“Let’s do it anyway.”

I had a professor in undergrad who told us he’d “drink Julie Newmar’s dirty bath water.”

You see, the 90s were a different time…

Oh no! Maybe with one of those cheap antennas you put on your window. I think they’re available at Wal-Mart.

You have every right to rant. As the spouse and caregiver of a chronically ill and disabled person, everything you said is the truth. Most people just don’t realize it.

It’s #selfpromotionSaturday and I’m proud to present my hybrid memoir, “Requiem for a College.” In 2017, my small college closed. I went on a research quest to find out why, and found how the collapse connects to current trends in higher ed.

Authors write the book, and authors or publishers release the book, but it's readers who weild the power behind the book. If you love something you've read, tell everyone, give it as gifts, sing its praises high and low. This and only this is the real magic in publishing.

GPT-5 regularly asks you why you are not citing its work. GPT-5 always believes your estimator is biased. GPT-5 has more of a comment than a question. Sometimes GPT-5 tells you stories about grad school and expresses regret about getting a PhD. GPT-5's mom wonders when it will start making money.

Tomorrow, I’m attending a meeting on crisis management for colleges. I’m expecting to learn the opposite of what happened when my college “suspended operations” as detailed in my book, “Requiem for a College.” #academicsky
