What are your go-to books, podcasts, resources, or real-world examples on nonprofit earned income? π΅ π° Iβm curious how others are thinking about it, navigating it, and learning from it. π‘ Drop a resource, share an example, or tag someone doing this well!
13.05.2025 12:12 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Yesterday, I had the honor of speaking with 18 powerhouse sisters from Ghana and Kenya π who are part of the Women Faith Leaders Fellowship at Georgetown Universityβs Berkley Center. π£οΈ In our sector, we canβt afford to stay silent if we think weβre heading down the wrong path. Our missions, our beneficiaries, and our donors deserve our curiosityβand our courage.
π Or, sometimes weβre just too close to our work to see whatβs missing. Thatβs where collaborative feedback comes in.
π οΈ Social impact pros: if you are looking for a small group setting to build community, join us for "Casual Conversations with Lori and Leah." β We keep it small and intimate and limit it to six participants.

πRationality has its place. But do we make enough space for wonder, storytelling, or reflectionβnot just analysisβin our work? Is there more wisdom in emotion than we usually allow? π Check out my review of Russ Roberts' book about this, Wild Problems, here: leahkral.substack.com/p/is-rationa...
23.04.2025 13:38 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0ποΈ Remember that scene in the movie Cast Away when Tom Hanks' character, Chuck, is adrift at sea on his makeshift raft, terrified as he watches βWilsonβ float away? πͺ π Sometimes we must release what no longer serves usβeven when it once meant everything. What have you let go of in your journey?
21.04.2025 17:49 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0πͺ β€οΈ For those of us working in social change, especially in moments when moral clarity feels hard to find, even within unjust systems and in the face of cruelty, we can choose to resist, to speak truth, and to act with humanity.
How are you navigating these tensions in your own work?
βοΈ βοΈ Through their conversations, the play exposes the tension between authoritarianism and justice, showing how laws can be used to uphold oppressionβor challenged to reveal deeper truths. There is heartbreaking pain but also hope and resistance.
18.04.2025 12:57 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0A few nights ago I attended a dramatic reading of The Island, a powerful play. It tells the story of two Black South African political prisoners during apartheid who, while enduring the harsh conditions of a prison modeled after Robben Island, rehearse a scene from Antigone. π
18.04.2025 12:57 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Nonprofit work is full of big questions.
β How do we serve more effectively?
βHow do we stay responsive in a changing world?
βHow do we build solutions that actually stick?
Thereβs no one right answerβbut there is a process.
