I don't know why this is considered such a radical perspective, but a "news" organization with a list of controversies this long can't be reformed.

The NYT must be abolished, and anyone working there must work towards this end through whatever means they have.

Texas' Big Bend braces for border wall in national park, worrying local Republicans and Democrats Locals say the rugged land is enough of a barrier and they're concerned about the impact on the environment and homeowners as the Department of Homeland Security forges ahead.

I want to do my part in raising awareness. Texas's Big Bend is set to receive new border security infrastructure, including >100 mi of border wall cutting through Big Bend National Park. Kristi Noem just waived 28 environmental protection laws and regulations to expedite this construction. 🧡 1/4

I know it’s difficult right now, but I insist that you seek and enjoy beautiful things, even if it seems frivolous or irresponsible in the face of overwhelming horror. I want you to feed yourself artistically, spiritually, and literally, because you can’t Do The Work when you’re starving.

You can name half a dozen fake right-wing martyrs around their horseshit "issues" like the trans panic and white genocide, and even people who think of themselves as _centrists_ can, too, because of that media control β€” the TV that's on at the Jiffy Lube waiting room. And they're coming for YouTube.

Couple takeaways:
-more info about GRFP stats on Friday
-NSF plans to hire because they lost too many staff to DRP
-big emphasis on presidential priorities (AI and quantum 'frontiers' in the director's office)
-a lot about reducing bureaucracy, not a ton of justification

They can make up 100% lies, like about daycares, and it becomes the news for *weeks*, and a national priority _even for the left_ because they control MASS media. Meanwhile, what's the name of the kid who punched the ICE asshole? What's the name of the Minneapolis cafe offering free food?

Australia spends far more on activities that harm biodiversity than on protecting it, a new study finds.

Researchers estimate A$26.3B in harmful subsidies β€” mostly fossil fuels and transport β€” versus less than A$0.8B for conservation. Reform is key, they say, to meeting global biodiversity targets.

With the DoD/Anthropic news this week, I can't help but think of my dad, who quit his first programming job back in the '80s, because his employer asked him to write software for weapons systems. I hope the current generation of engineers will have that same spine.

This reminds me of how AI is inherently anti-worker. If the end goal is the product, and you remove all training/skill from the worker en route to executing that? You’ve effectively robbed the worker (or student) of their own development

As noted, Rosen asserted in his email that "[t]he lawyers in my civil division
didn't deserve" the supposedly inaccurate January 28 order. Putting aside the fact that
the January 28 order was not inaccurate, Rosen failed to mention that this Court said the
following in the show-cause order that preceded the January 28 order:
The Court expresses its appreciation to attorney Ana Voss and her colleagues [in the civil division], who have struggled mightily to ensure that respondents comply with court orders despite the fact that respondents have failed to provide them with adequate resources.
ECF No. 7 at 2 n.1.
The judges of this District have been extraordinarily patient with the government
attorneys, recognizing that they have been put in an impossible position by Rosen and
his superiors in the Department of Justice (leading many of those attorneys- including, unfortunately, Ana Voss- to resign). What those attorneys "didn't deserve" was the
Administration sending 3000 ICE agents to Minnesota to detain people without making
any provision for handling the hundreds of lawsuits that were sure to follow.

If anything is "beyond the pale," it is ICE's continued violation of the orders of
this Court. Increasingly, this Court has had to resort to using the threat of civil
contempt to force ICE to comply with orders. The Court is not aware of another
occasion in the history of the United States in which a federal court has had to threaten
contempt -again and again and again - to force the United States government to comply
with court orders.
