One week to the #Emmys! 👏🏽And I’m so pleased this #MollyofDenali writing nomination is drawing attention to an important episode on #Indigenous grief and celebration.
I hope you will watch these stories & share them. So many worked hard to bring them to you.

There's something very beautiful about the two biggest (to me, at least) stories of the Olympics:
1. Alysa Liu: comes back on her own terms with joy and enjoyment of the sport
2. Norway being the winningest country in the winter games due to the fact that it lets kids be kids and enjoy sport.

Color photograph of Coretta Scott King wearing a red jacket, seated in front of a large portrait of Martin Luther King Jr. Overlaid text reads: “Freedom is never really won. You earn it and win it in every generation.” Her name, Coretta Scott King, appears beneath the quote.
Coretta Scott King understood something history keeps proving true. Freedom is never finished. Every generation must defend it.
She turned loss into purpose and kept fighting when the world expected her to step back.
Leader. Strategist. Movement architect.
Black History. Always. 🖤

It’s hard to describe what the house feels like when the Taku winds are really going, especially when it can be like this for daaaayyys. But nice days to be inside with warm kitties. 🐈⬛

Black Native Books for Black History Month
For Black History Month I’m deciding on at least one book to read by a Black Native author and/or about Black Native history and experience. Here are a few books/authors I’ve found in my search: Su…
This post is from last year, but it’s just as relevant for those who would like to start getting into some Black Native authors during Black History Month.
Are there any Black and Indigenous books you’ve read or think should be highlighted?

A large black billboard mounted on the side of a city building displays an inspirational quote in white serif text that reads: “Powerful women don’t fear other women shining. They turn up the lights.” The quote is attributed to Allison Walsh. Tall office buildings are visible in the background, giving an urban, professional atmosphere.
Real power is not threatened by another woman’s success. It multiplies it.
Insecure people compete.
Powerful women collaborate.
When one of us shines, we all see further.
Turn the lights all the way up. 💡✨

Husband wanted to dress up Toulouse after her (sorta) naming inspo. My sister wanted to name her after an #Aristocat, but Marie was too regular, so she’s Toulouse after Marie’s (orange) brother. She didn’t mind the ribbons, but got herself out of them quickly once we were done with photos. #cats

Dunleavy administration may divert federal oil revenue from North Slope
Documents published by the Alaska Department of Revenue show a multibillion-dollar long-term change in the way money from federal oil leases is handled.
Alaska Gov. Mike Dunleavy’s admin is proposing to reclassify NPR-A impact mitigation funds — meant for North Slope communities — as “unrestricted,” allowing statewide use. (via Alaska Beacon)

Here’s a quick peek at our dad’s full #coloringbook. Every page is an original #Indigenous design hand sketched or painted by Dad, then my sisters and I digitized the designs for coloring. It’s a work of family across years, really, and one of the last collaborations we did with him.

Color the Animals of Alaska, Tlingit-style!
After creating the Christmas coloring book featuring his art years ago with daughter Vera, Don wanted to do additional coloring and activity books. His last collaborative project with his daughters…
My dad’s Indigenous coloring book is finally available! Over fifty original Alaska Native animal designs to color. My dad was a Tlingit formline artist, retired Alaska State Trooper, and National Park Ranger who loved traditional Tlingit art and wildlife.
