The Middle East is a global powerhouse for nitrogen-based fertilizers, producing approx half of the world's supply of urea, significant amounts of ammonia & sulfur. Also phosphate fertilizers (MAP and DAP). Top producers include Saudi, Iran, Qatar, Oman & UAE. Shortage of these=higher food prices.

35-50% of the nitrogen fertilizers such as urea & ammonia and also the sulphur that farmers use in their fields comes from the Middle East but with the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, farmers will be adversely affected. Isn't it nearly planting season?
