Watching videos of police dragging away grannies for holding an anti genocide bit of card, thinking about the time the Met buried reports that one of their officers was a predator, then after he used police ID to kidnap, rape & murder a woman, they then arrested women for holding a vigil for her.

I think Altman assumes that โ€œPhD-level expertโ€ means someone who speaks confidently on everything as opposed to saying โ€œitโ€™s nuanced,โ€ losing their keys, and getting maniacally fixated on their current topic to the point of seeing it in everything.

How Trumpโ€™s โ€œBig, Beautiful Billโ€ Will Make Law School Unaffordable For People Who Are Not Already Rich Sweeping changes to key student loan programs will make it harder for aspiring public interest attorneys to attend law schoolโ€”and exacerbate this country's justice gap.

Of the many culture shock moments in law school, one that still sticks with me is learning how *wealthy* most of my classmates' families were, and the notion that it's going to be functionally impossible for lower-income students to attend going forward is really hard for me to contemplate

I think it is hard to underestimate how important this website is for the Rule of Law in the UK. Before 2010, if you wanted to find out what statutes were actually in force you essentially needed a subscription to a very expensive commercial product like Halsbury's Statutes.

It seems like people have gotten pretty comfortable with putting academic articles in ChatGPT, etc. to help summarize/digest. Is there a consensus developing that doing so is fair use? What about licensing restrictions if you're accessing a paid resource? What if you know the author is against AI?

Man carrying home his gardening tools arrested by armed police in Manchester Samuel Rowe, who was returning from allotment, seeking to overturn caution for possession of offensive weapon

Two vital lessons from this story:

โœ… never agree to a police interview without legal representation, even if officers claim they are unable to reach a solicitor, and

โœ… never accept a caution to secure release, as it's an admission of guilt

4. Matthew B. Reeves
Mr. Reeves admits that he utilized Al to generate the legal citations at issue, that he added them to both draft motions without verifying them, and that all of this was "contrary to the requirements of Butler Snow LLP and [his] obligations to this
Court." Doc. 194-2 11 3-6. As the court understands Mr. Reeves's position, he does not contest his responsibility in any way and would prefer to be held solely
responsible. See Doc. 200 at 24. And the court credits Mr. Reeves's representation
that he will use his own experience in this case to warn law students and other lawyers of the consequences they might face if they make a similar decision regarding the use of AI. See Doc. 203-4 91 3-5.

The court has no difficulty finding that Mr. Reeves's misconduct was more
than mere recklessness. In the light of repeated general warnings from federal courts about the risks of bogus citations generated by Al, as well as the persistent specific warnings, policies, and expectations of his colleagues and law firm with respect to Al, Mr. Reeves's misconduct was particularly egregious. Having been so
extensively alerted of the risk that Al will make things up, and having blown through
all of his firm's internal controls designed to protect court filings from counterfeit citations, Mr. Reeves's repeated decisions to parrot citations generated by Al without verifying even one of them reflect complete and utter disregard for his professional duty of candor. This is recklessness in the extreme, and it is tantamount to bad faith. Accordingly, the court will impose an appropriate sanction under its inherent authority.

The two partners involved, however, were not so lucky. First up is Matthew B.
